While the smartphone market is already preoccupied with a plethora of launches, the handset vendors do not seem to rest. The manufacturers including local and international are constantly pushing in their products into the market going by the demands of the consumers.

Until now, both the entry-level and mid-range markets were completely haunted by Android operating system, but, Nokia has made an attempt to popularize the Windows Phone 8 platform by launching Lumia 620, the cheapest WP8 smartphone launched ever.

However the manufacturer has several stones to obstruct in the path in terms of popular Android smartphone offerings, Micromax being one of them. The India based vendor recently launched an Android ICS Ninja smartphone - A89 Ninja at Rs 6,299.

When it comes to the availability in India, Lumia 620, Gizbot has been told by an inside source that the handset will be coming in March with the online availability starting from the next week. Whereas, A89 Ninja is already available in India via online retailers.

Dimensions & Weight: Lumia 620 carries a dimension of 115.4 x 61.1 x 11 mm and weighs in at 127 grams, A89 Ninja seems to come with a lightweight profile measuring 116 x 62 x 11.5 mm in dimensions and 95 grams in weight.

Display: Lumia 620 packs a 3.8 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 246 ppi pixel density and Nokia ClearBlack display technology. On the other hand, A89 Ninja boasts a 4 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and 235 ppi pixel density.

Speaking of pixel density, there is not much difference between the two, however, the ClearBlack display technology in Lumia 620 reduces the reflections and improves sunlight legibility.

Processor: When it comes to hardware, Lumia 620 comes with a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1GHz processor, whereas, A89 Ninja is powered by a 1GHz dual core MediaTek MT6577 processor.

The Snapdragon S4 chipset uses Krait processor and enables the device to communicate quickly, efficiently and most importantly reduces the heat, thereby allowing the handsets to have enhanced battery life by reducing processing power wastage.

On the other hand, the Mediatek chip features an ARM Cortex A9 processor and PowerVR Series SGX GPU boosts application and browser performance by up to 40% and offers rich multimedia features, good camera features, best dual SIM solution and more.

Operating System: Coming to the most contradictory segment of the comparison, Lumia 620 is based on Windows Phone 8 while A89 Ninja is flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Speaking of software features, Windows Phone 8 has improved features like dynamic Live Tile Information, social network integration in the People hub, Skydrive and Office 365 documents synchronization, Facebook-events integrated calendar, visual voicemail, threaded email conversations support and more.

On the other hand, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a simple and beautiful UI for easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets, and deep interactivity, new lock screen actions, rich and versatile camera capabilities, sharing with screenshots, cloud connected user experience, improved email, Android Beam with NFC sharing, Face unlock, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth HDP.

Connectivity: Talking of connectivity, both have similar connectivity features including 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. However, Lumia 620 fares well with an advanced version of Bluetooth and NFC connectivity.

Battery: Lumia 620 is loaded with a 1,300 mAh battery delivering 9.5 hours talk time and 330 hours standby, which is better than the 1,450 mAh battery offering 4 hours talktime and 170 hours standby.

Price: While Micromax A89 Ninja is available at a price of Rs 6,299, Lumia 620 is yet to make its presence in the nation. The handset is estimated to be priced around Rs 16,000 approximately.

Software Features: Lumia 620 is packed with features including Nokia Drive, CityLens, Nokia Maps, MixRadio and 7GB free SkyDrive storage. At the same time, Micromax A89 Ninja has Hook Up, M! Live, M! Store, M! Zone+ and MiSMS App.

Verdict

Both the smartphones are decent offerings at attractive price points. Moreover, based on different operating systems, both have their own positives and negatives.

If the concern is on a smartphone with a better display, superior camera performance, advanced connectivity features and enhanced battery backup, Lumia 620 should be the right choice.

On the other hand, if the concern is on a lightweight smartphone, Micromax A89 Ninja must be a better option.

At the end, the consumers will have to decide which one they want, an Android or a Windows Phone based smartphone. Also, it depends on the price of the handset as they both seem to belong to different categories.
