The new version of Android is official, and those who own Android One smartphones can upgrade to the latest system in the coming days. Android 5.0 Lollipop ships with the newly introduced Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 devices. A lot more devices will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop in the coming weeks.
Lollipop features all new user interface (UI), cross platform support and improved security. Available on November 3, the new software update clearly aims to compete against Apple's recently released iOS 8.

Material Design
Lollipop gives the OS, a new lease of life. Google like to call it as Material Design. Basically, Material Design is Google's new visual look for Android. It's a cleaner style which developers can make use of in designing apps.
Enhanced Notifications
Android 5.0 makes notifications even better. With the new update, you can get them on the lock screen - and they will be automatically ordered in priority. Users can now pull down their device's Notifications Drawer from the lock screen and double tap a notification to automatically jump to a specific app.
Performance
Performance wise, though, Android Lollipop will support 64-bit processors. That simply means that those devices that would come with 64-bit processor would be powerful and zippy. Google also promises that Android's new Android Extension Pack will bring PC-level graphics to mobile devices.
Battery Life – New Saver Mode
Google has added a dedicated battery saver mode to Android Lollipop that will give up to 90 minutes of extra use per charge. Well that's a lot of power when your phone is running empty.
Security
Security is obviously a key element for Android users. A new feature will let you unlock your smartphone when physically near to a device like an Android Wear-based watch. If you have an Android Wear watch on, for instance, your Android Lollipop device will recognize the watch and let you unlock your phone by simply tapping the power button.
Device Sharing
Lollipop now gives users the ability to set up multiple users. You can set up guest users for phones and tablets, for instance, you can lend your handset to a friend without them seeing your stuff.
New Lockscreen
The Android 5.0 Lollipop also offers a new lockscreen which will show you notifications. All you need to swipe up to lock or you can swipe right to launch the dialer or left to launch the camera.
