Apple had already made the world aware about its impending new iOS release in the form of the new iOS 8.1 when it first released a beta version of it. And as promised, the final version of the operating system has now been pushed out to users across the world.
While you are all geared up for the new update, let us tell you first that if you don't receive the update readily, don't beat yourself down with panic. Apple has and is rolling out the update in phases and it might take some time before it finally reaches out to you.
However, that doesn't change the fact that you have to keep checking for the update almost all the time on your phone. But even if you get hold of it, how do you intend to download the update?
Here are 5 easy steps to download and install the new iOS on your handset.
Before everything else, make sure that your Apple device is compatible with the new upgrade. And in case you didn't know by now, iOS 8.1 supports iPhone 4s or newer, iPad 2 and newer, iPad Mini and newer, and the 5th-generation iPod Touch.
Head over to Settings for accessing the settings on your phone from the home screen.
Go down below in Settings and you will find the Generals tab under it. Head over into that.
When inside General, go over to Software Update that you will find just below About (for all details and licenses related to the handset).
Once you hit that, you will come across a Download and Install option. However, if you don't see that option on your phone, it must be because there's not enough space in your phone to support the update. As you may know, after all, the update will require 69.9MB of free space on an iPhone 5.
