Earlier this month Apple announced that they were fast approaching a monumental 50 billion app downloads. To celebrate this landmark the Cupertino company announced a contest, where the lucky user, to download the 50 billionth app would be receiving an App Store gift card worth $10,000 (Rs. 53,8625 approximately). Also, the next 50 downloaders would receive an App Store gift card worth $500.
On May 16th The incredible feat was achieved and Brandon Ashmore from Mento was the luky downloader to hit the 50 billionth download mark, by downloading app called Say The Same Thing. Of-cource the fortunate downloader will be the recipient of the $10,000 App Store gift card and the next 50 downloader were credited the $500 worth gift card.
Apps have had huge impact on the way people perceive smartphones. The App Store first launched in July, 2008, giving iOS users access to 500 apps and now the numbers are close to reaching 1 million apps. The company announced it had reached the 25 billion mark in March 2012 and within a span of 14 months the company now has 50 billion app downloads under it's belt.
Apple said, this is a historic event and indeed it is, the company has made $3.86 billion in profits from apps downloads. Coming back to the 50 billionth app download, "Say The Same Thing" developed by Space Inch, LLC, is a word game app, which is available for free download at iTunes Store.
