There was a time when BlackBerry used to make some of the best selling smartphones. With the rise of Apple in the enterprise segment, BlackBerry's performance got affected severely, thus leading to heavy losses.
Nevertheless, Waterloo-based handset manufacturer tried to save its reputation by coming up with BlackBerry 10 OS alongside slew of supported hardware. Even though the demand for BB 10 products remains low, the company on Tuesday announced the availability of BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, a new update for BlackBerry 10 powered smartphones.
According to official press note, "BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 includes hundreds of new enhancements and refinements that will make the things you do every day faster and easier"
The latest software addition will be compatible with the entire line of smartphones using BlackBerry 10 OS (BlackBerry Z30, BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10 and BlackBerry Q5).
Although BlackBerry has added many new features with the latest software update; however, the coming of FM Radio for existing BlackBerry 10 devices is indeed the biggest addition.
BlackBerry has added unique feature called picture password for quick unlocking. Now users can quickly unlock their phone using a combination of a picture and a number (0-9) of their choice. When you try to unlock the phone, the picture will appear along with a grid of random numbers. To unlock, simply drag the grid so the number you selected overlays the particular point on the image.
In addition to picture password for unlocking, actionable lock screen notifications, is yet another addition, basically you can respond to an important message much quicker or to check messages.
Other incremental update includes a customize pinch gesture to filter BlackBerry Hub. You can customize the Hub to show only unread messages, flagged messages, draft messages, meeting invites, sent messages or Level 1 Alerts.
The latest version comes with small yet valuable updates such as creation of SMS and email groups, customizable quick menu settings, off line browsing mode, device and battery monitor and lastly more secure enterprise features.
BlackBerry says the update is already made available to BlackBerry 10 users. If you are using BlackBerry 10 compatible handset, make sure you update the latest update as soon as possible.
