Viber Brings Free Calls to BlackBerry Devices, Dodges BB10

Popular VoIP app and Skype, WhatsApp competitor Viber has recently announced the release of a beta version for BlackBerry OS that features voice calling, Viber for BlackBerry 2.4.

The Cyprus-based startup confirmed that the new version of the BlackBerry app will offer free calls to other Viber users with BlackBerry OS5 and OS7 devices. Further, it will also include various other features and bug fixes. But a bad news for BlackBerry 10 device users as the latest version of the BlackBeryy app will not be available on Z10 and Q10 and other BB10 OS based devices.

"BlackBerry is one of the most important markets for us and represents our third largest user base," Viber CEO Talmon Marco said. "We are thrilled to bring this community free voice calling, letting them communicate freely with all of their important contacts across multiple platforms."

Recently, Viber also released an update for Windows Phone 8 handsets recently. For those who are not aware, Viber uses existing phone number as user ID, just like Whatsapp and automatically detects which of your existing contacts is already using Viber.
