After Zip Phone Acquisition, Hike Announces Free-voice Calling Feature for Android Users Globally
Whatsapp competitor and messaging app, Hike has officially released free voice-calling feature which will work over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi. This feature is made available globally in over 200 countries. Earlier there were many rumors regarding free calling feature in Hike and now the company has made it official.
Last month, the India-based messaging app Hike acquired Zip Phone, which is a US based free calling app. After acquiring they readily started integrating this calling feature in their native app and made an official announcement on Wednesday.
There are many messaging services offering free calls which consumes more data. Taking this into consideration, Hike launched it's free-voice calling feature which consumes less data making users to have more calling minutes for less MB.
"While building free Hike Calls, we kept two things in mind. Firstly, India is a very cost sensitive market and as a result we've ensured that our service is extremely efficient on data. It means our users can pack in more minutes per megabyte when calling on hike. Secondly, we've made Hike's free calling service available globally in over 200 countries. Hikers from India can now speak with their loved ones in India and across the world for free," said Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder and CEO, Hike Messenger during the launch event of this call feature.

This new free voice-calling feature is still in the beta stage, which is currently available for the Android users only. More than 90% of Hike's user base belongs to Android users, so the company made this feature available to Android users first. Other mobile operating systems like Windows and iOS will soon get this feature by the end of Q1 2015.
Reportedly, Hike has over 35 million active users by August 2014. By the end of 2015, is the app is targeting to reach 100 million active users globally. Most of it's users are from India aging from 15 years and above. This new voice-calling feature is an addition to the already available, popular features like Hike Offline, Hidden mode, regional stickers and more.
