BlackBerry 10 App Library Tipped to Have 40% Repackaged Android APKs.
The new BlackBerry 10 platform was recently launched with 70,000 apps. In a Q&A session at the BlackBerry 10 launch, BlackBerry CMO Frank Boulben said the number will soon pop-up to 100,000. You must be wondering, how did BlackBerry manage to get so many apps? If, you must know, many of the BlackBerry 10 apps are actually repackaged Android apps. According to BlackBerry vice president, Martyn Mallick , 40 percent of these apps are in fact, tweaked android apps.
How did BlackBerry manage to get so many android app developers on board? The answer is simple, the Canadian company has a Blackberry Android tool-set, that enables Android developers to port their existing apps to the BlackBerry platform, with ease. BlackBerry 10 SDK translates Android based code to a BlackBerry-friendly format. For instance, in the BlackBerry 10 version, you can hit the Android menu-button, with an up-swipe gesture and hit the back-button with a back-swipe gesture.
Mallick said even-though, the Android apps operate smooth, they look a little awkward on the BlackBerry Z10. He added wrapping Android in order to fill up a store isn't the company's main goal.He also said BlackBerry has teams in each country for identifying and acquiring popular app developers to write for the BlackBerry platform.
With tools that allow Android developers to easily tweak Android apps to the BlackBerry one, we can expect more apps to surface for the BB10 OS, soon enough. This is something to look forward to, for all the BlackBerry fans out there.
