It initially started with memes on social media that poked fun and asked Ola cabs to start a boat service in Chennai to wade through the floods. The heavy rains had created havoc as the entire city came to a standstill with heavy flooding.

On Tuesday afternoon, a hashtag #OlaBoat was trending on Twitter. Another trending topic was Ola Staff. The images on some social media websites show Ola staff wearing company jackets and rescuing people in boats. The Boats had Ola logos on them and were deployed several parts of the city.The company posted a tweet after the #OlaBoats became a trending topic on Twitter, Facebook as well as other social media platforms.
"Ola deployed boats in waterlogged and partially submerged areas on the basis of information from the Fire and Rescue department", said Ravi Teja, Ola's Business Head for Tamil Nadu.
The company may continue to deploy the Boats in the city if it continues to be flooded.The Ola Boats have been a timely gesture from the Company backed by Japanese investors.Ola had partnered with the Chennai Sport Fishing Company for the boats. The friendly gesture from Ola has been appreciated by people both online and offline.
