A high definition DVR gadget from Fast Forward

The tech world recently got the news that during the NAB Show of 2012 which will be held from April 14th to 19 in Las Vegas Fast Forward Videos (FFV) will launch the sidekick HD which is a multi format camera mountable DVR . This device is compatible with the latest of the camcorders available in the market. This gadget is designed in such a way as to assist the pre production as well as post production activities.

The most notable feature of this device is that camera to editing process can become very efficient with it. The user can opt to not to use the cameras onboard recording device and use a HD/SDI or HDMI output to capture the video directly to this device. Then the final required video format can be chosen without the need for any additional coding or accessories. This not only saves up a vast amount of time but also ensures that the video quality is not hindered.

The image quality of this device cannot be matched by any other recording device in the market. This DVR overcomes the lack of proper recording options in today’s high end cameras that features superior image sensors and high quality camera lens. sideKick HD offers a data stream recording speed of 220 MBPS at 7:1 compression ratio. This is significantly higher than the 30MBPS recording speed and the 50:1 compression ratio of normal camcorders. This provides very high image quality than what generally can be obtained from a normal camera.

This device attaches to almost all the HD camcorder or HDSLR via standard mount. The videos can be recorded in ProRes or DNxHD (Avid) NLE formats. This can be brought into the NLE environment simply by moving the 2.5 inch SSD to the computer. This is not possible in normal camcorders and usually lot of time is taken up for transcoding and associated activities. A monitor having 4.3 inch size is provided at the back and that can be used to preview the videos. It comes with scrub and jog capabilities too.

sideKick HD will be powered from the cameras battery itself. Power cables are offered by the company that can be used for direct connection to the camera batteries. A battery pack option is also offered by the company if you decide to put the device to its full use.

sideKick HD’s price tag in India is not known at the moment.
