Drop Test of iPad Mini vs Nexus 7: Apple Tablet Grabs the Crown [Video]
Apple has recently come up with its 8 inch tablet – iPad Mini after many speculations and rumors in order to take the 7 inch tablet market under its control. However, the 7 inch offering from Google – Nexus 7, which was released in July with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS seems to be getting ready for the fight as Google has unveiled the 32GB version of the Asus-made tablet.

Be it iPad Mini or Nexus 7, what will happen if the tablets go crashing against the ground accidentally? This is one of the factors that need to be checked prior to buying one as it is essential for some consumers who are prone to drop their devices frequently. Moreover, as both the tablets are easy to handle with their smaller dimensions, they are also susceptible to accidents and despite of protecting the devices with a case, sometimes, they get damaged.
Darcy LaCouvee of Android Authority, the man of gadget destruction has come back with the drop test of iPad Mini and Nexus 7 to confirm which tablet among the duo can withstand extreme conditions.
In this test, both the tablets were dropped on their side, back and front from a height of four feet above the ground and the results proved that iPad Mini is a tough tablet with its aluminum casing.
Also, Square Trade, a company that offers warranties for devices has also come up with the drop test of these tablets. Square Trade says it built a robot to make sure each test drop is the same. When dropped from with the corners and back facing the ground, the iPad Mini suffers more damage as compared to the Nexus 7.
The final test is a 10-second underwater submersion. In this test, the iPad mini survives and continues to function after being pulled out of the water, reacting to touchscreen gestures. The Nexus 7, meanwhile, shuts itself off and restarts. It's unclear if it worked after turning it on.
Hence, again the iPad Mini secures the crown of a strong tablet.
iPad Mini has a packs a 7.9 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, which is not a Retina Display, 1GHz dual core Apple A5 processor, PowerVR GPU, 5MP iSight rear camera and 1.2MP front camera for video calling.
With iOS 6 platform, iPad Mini comes in three configurations – 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage and 512MB RAM. The tablet comes packed with with a Lightning port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. Further, the 3G and 4G supporting iPad Mini will be launched in mid-November. As claimed by Apple, iPad Mini is loaded with a 16.3 Whr Li-Po battery delivering up to 10 hours backup.
Nexus 7 packs a 7 inch touchscreen backlit IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution, 216ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass, quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB RAM, 1.2MP front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, micro USB 2.0 and 4,325 mAh Li-Po battery. Moreover, the tablet is available in 16GB and 32GB variants.
