Apple unveiled its much anticipated and highly rumored iPad Mini – the 7.9 inch version of the global tablet dominator – iPad on Tuesday at a special press event. The Cupertino based company also confirmed that the smaller tablet will be available for pre-order starting from today and that it will be released from November 2.
On the pricing front, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants of iPad Mini will sell $329 (approx Rs 17,500), $429 (approx Rs 20,500) and $529 (approx Rs 28,500) for Wi-Fi only and $459 (approx Rs 25,000), $559 (approx Rs 30,000) and $659 (approx Rs 35,000) for Wi-Fi + Cellular models respectively.
However, prior to the official release, the iPad Mini is listed on FiranghiBhai.com for pre-order at a price of Rs 25,900. The New Delhi based website is known for selling global products and devices before the official release in the Indian market. The listing claims that the iPad Mini will be delivered in a week's time of its US release date.
Talking about the specs, iPad Mini has a packs a 7.9 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, which is not a Retina Display, 1GHz dual core Apple A5 processor, PowerVR GPU, 5MP iSight rear camera and 1.2MP front camera for video calling.
Running on iOS 6 platform with new features including Apple Maps, improved Siri, new Safari app, iCloud cloud storage, new Photostream app, PassBook app, deeper integration to Facebook and more, iPad Mini comes in three configurations – 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage and 512MB RAM, which is awaiting confirmation. Also, there are speculations stating that the tablet will be available in an 8GB version.
In terms of connectivty, iPad Mini comes packed with with a Lightning port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. Further, the 3G and 4G supporting iPad Mini will be launched in mid-November. As claimed by Apple, iPad Mini is loaded with a 16.3 Whr Li-Po battery delivering up to 10 hours backup.
