While Apple iPad Mini, the miniature of the tablet market dominator is still awaiting its release in several countries including India, there are widespread rumors regarding its successor – iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display reportedly coming in mid-2013.
According to a recent Digitimes report citing industry sources, LG Display (LGD) retains theposition of the largest panel supplier for Apple iPad Mini and AU Optronics (AUO) suffers from poor yields when it comes to the production of panels for the same.
The report continues stating that both LGD and AUO are the key iPad Mini display suppliers for Apple and the duo have shipped over four million panels for the miniature tablet in the month of November 2012. However, analyzing the quantity shipped, LGD seems to be the prominent supplier shipping most of the panels for iPad Mini.
Owning to the delay in the shipment of panels from AUO, market researchers predict that iPad Mini will reach 6 to 8 million by the end of this year, while it was initially estimated to be around 10 million units.
Further, the report also suggests that the market sources have speculated that Apple will reportedly launch the second generation iPad Mini the second half of the next year and that the updated device will comes with Retina Display. Also, speaking of the existing iPad Mini displays, the panels made by LGD will use IPS (In Plane Switch) technology and those made by AUO will use AHVA (Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle) technology.
According to an earlier DoNews report, AU Optronics, will supply 1024 x 768 pixel resolution and it is reportedly planning to start with the mass production of 2048 x 1536 resolution 7.9-inch displays with Retina Display boasting an eye-pleasing pixel density of 324 ppi after mid-2013.
