Lava International's sub-brand Xolo has been launching a variety of budget and mid-range smartphones in India. Basically, the company has been concentrating on affordable range of Android smartphones in the dual-core and quad-core line-up.

Well, for Xolo X1000 - an Intel based smartphone, the brand created too much hype and held a special media event in Goa, to lift the wraps off the handset. But now, the firm has launched Xolo B700, the successor of Xolo A700, which was launched in November 2012.

Xolo B700 has been spotted on Flipkart and Infibeam, leading online retailer sites in India at a price of Rs 8,999. The listing shows that the handset is available for purchase and will be shipped in 7 to 8 days of time.

Definitely Xolo B700 is a stylishly designed affordable Android ICS smartphone launched by the tech firm. It is a consecutively third launch in the Xolo series by Lava in a two weeks' time period. Form Factor: Being relatively thicker and heavier, Xolo B700 carries a dimension of 66.5 x 130.5 x 12.1 mm and weighs in at 160 grams. Whereas, Xolo A700 measuring 68.5 x 136 x 9.1 mm in dimension, has a weight of around 115 grams.

On the display front, Xolo B700 comes with a 4.3 inch qHD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. In comparison, Xolo A700 boasts a slightly larger 4.5 inch qHD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a similar resolution of 960 x 540 pixels.

Processor: Both the smartphones score the same with a 1GHz dual core processor for better multi-tasking. Powered by a PowerVR SGX 531 GPU, Xolo B700 will offer better graphic performance.

Operating System: Again, both Xolo A700 and Xolo B700 are flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and hence, they will offer similar user interface and skin. Till now, the manufacturer has not revealed any information on the Android Jelly Bean update for both the smartphones.

Camera: In terms of camera, both Xolo A700 and Xolo B700 come with a 5MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 720p video recording and a 0.3MP front camera for video calling.

Storage: Both the smartphones come with a 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.

Connectivity: When it comes to internet connectivity, Xolo B700 and Xolo A700 come with 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS and a micro USB 2.0 with average connectivity speeds.

Battery: In this segment, Xolo B700 scores more weightage with a powerful 3,450 mAh battery with 20 hours talk time and 363 hours standby. On the other hand, Xolo A700 is packed with a 1,700 mAh battery offering 3 hours talk time and 288 hours standby.

Price: While Xolo A700 is priced at Rs 7,999, Xolo B700 is priced slightly higher at Rs 8,999.

Verdict

Specwise, both the handsets are almost similar. Nevertheless to say, Xolo B700 attracts the attention of consumers with the powerful 3,450 mAh battery and it in fact the first budget smartphone to come with such an enhanced battery spec.

However, the implementation of a larger battery has made the handset a little heavy and thicker as compared to its predecessor A700.

Hence, if you like carrying lighter handsets and can do with a lesser battery backup Xolo A700 can be a nice phone to carry, but if you are a heavy smartphone user and dont want to spend a fortune to buy a premium handset, go for Xolo B700.
