LG Optimus Pad Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
Both LG and Samsung has towered over the Indian mobile phone scenario for the past few years considering the vast yet different range of phones they have introduced in the Indian market. Both the giants have decided to step into the tablet pc market with their fair deal of models. The recent addition to this new venture is the Optimus pad by LG and Galaxy tab 8.9 by Samsung. Both models are strong and sure competitors for each other and as well as for other tabs in the market.
Both the gadgets come in a flawless design and have wonderful ergonomics. The LG Optimus with dimensions 243.8x150x12.7mm and weighing in at about 621 grams is a bit in the heavier side compared to the Samsung Galaxy tab 8.9 with dimensions 230.9 x 157.8 x 8.6mm and weighing in at 470gms. Optimus pad may feel a bit chunky in comparison to the ultra slim design of the Galaxy tab.
Both the devices run on android operating system version 3.0 or better known as android honeycomb operating system. They both have 1Ghz dual core processors working in Tegra 2 T20 chipset which is very widely accepted and highly efficient. Optimus pad surely has an upper hand when it comes to imaging since it has dual 5MP front cameras which enable 3D video capture and a 2MP front camera. The Galaxy Tab in the other hand has a 3MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for video calling. 8.9 inch, 16M colors capacitive touch screens are common for both the devices but LG uses LCD display where as Samsung uses TFT display. Samsung runs on a Li-po 6000mah battery and LG uses the standard Li-ion battery that has 273 hours of stand by time and up to 9 hrs of talk time.
Coming to the connectivity part the main disadvantage of LG Optimus pad is that it has no telephony option that is u cannot make calls with this device. On the other hand the Samsung Galaxy tab overcomes this disadvantage by offering support for GSM voice communications. Both has USB 2.0 ports but the Bluetooth version in LG Optimus is 2.1 where as Samsung offers the latest 3.0 version. Infrared ports are absent in both the devices but offers a HTML browser and push mail features.
The LG Optimus Pad, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9devices are well equipped with built in applications that are enough to keep you occupied for quite some time. Document editing capabilities are a common feature and both the devices support flash files. The android platform ensures scope for further addition of a large number of applications that are both directly available from the respective manufactures website and also as third party applications. Even though both the devices support various music and video formats the LG optimus pad has a superior and visually very attractive music player interface. This coupled with the full HD video playback makes it definitely a head turner.
The price in India aspect of these devices are interesting that the LG Optimus pad is priced at close to Rs 30, 000 and the Samsung galaxy tab 8.9 also comes at a similar price in India range. Considering the fact that LG Optimus pad has 3D cameras and a LED capacitive touch screen the pricing is surely very competitive.
