Entry-level laptops needn’t necessarily be bad or offer poor performance. With increasingly tight expectations placed by consumers and the rising multi-tasking requirements for professionals, entry-level laptops have matured to offer reasonably good performance and be capable of handling most day-to-day tasks.
The Acer Aspire 5749 is quite good with reasonable features for an entry-level laptop. It has good performance, has great storage capacity and battery life.
Acer Aspire 5749 has rock solid build quality coming from its plastic chassis. The matt finish could keep scratches and bumps out of the way and not let them damage the external appearance of your 5749.
Acer has equipped the Aspire 5749 with the Core i3-2330M dual-core processor from Intel. It also has 4GB RAM. These are reasonably good specs and have achieved quite good performance scores in the tests conducted by independent agencies. The battery life too was found to be more than expected.
All this suggests that this laptop will be great for all your day-to-day requirements. You can also play high definition video on an external screen connected via the HDMI port. The laptop supports 720p as well as 1080p video playing.
The Chiclet keyboard is spacious and good to type on. The 16:9 touchpad is also spacious and complements the widescreen. For clicks, the touchpad only features one rocker bar instead of separate buttons for right and left clicks. The rocker bar can be clicked on the right or the left to make the clicks.
As expected with conventional laptops, the speakers of the Aspire 5749 lack bass. So while you won’t have serious problems in hearing YouTube videos you won’t be able to enjoy the audio effects of a movie or loud rock music. But you can always connect external USB speakers or headphones through the audio 3.5mm jack.
The 15.6-inch screen of Acer Aspire 5749 has been given a glossy finish. So though this technically produces reflections on the screen, it’s more than made up for by the amazing image quality. The colors appear vibrantly with a good deal of contrast.
The laptop also comes with multi-format card reader and the usual three USB ports. The high performance, 750GB hard disk and the quality screen which provides great clarity in spite of the reflections that cloud the vision make it a really attractive deal especially since this is an entry level laptop. The not so spectacular viewing angles are compensated by the screen tilt while the massive 1366x768 screen resolution is ideal for working on twin programs simultaneously.
