Samsung 5 series ultrabooks launched
The notebook market is always flourishing with the addition of more and more new models. Samsung has recently announced the addition of new models to their Samsung Series 5 range. This range consists basically of very high performance ultrabooks. The ultrabooks are a slightly tweaked version of the laptop in the sense that they are ultra-portable and very stylish. They will usually feature a very compact and light weight design.
Some of the features and specifications of the new Samsung ultrabooks are:
- 13.3 inch and 14 inch screen sizes available
- 1366 x 768 pixel display resolution
- Anti-reflective coating
- Aluminium body
- Intel’s second generation processor
- 16 GB Solid state disk
- Expresscache technology
- Up to 8GB RAM
- Windows 7 operating system
- Integrated Intel’s high definition graphics
- HDMI ports
- Wi-Fi
- USB
- Optical disc drive( 14 inch model)
Both the 13.3 and 14 inch versions are very compact and portable. The 13.3 inch model has an overall weight of 1.4 Kg where as the 14 inch model weighs in at 1.8 Kg. The smaller model has a thickness of 14.9 mm where as the latter has a thickness of 20.9 mm. Apart from this and some of the specs difference all the other features seems to be similar for both the models.
The presence of a solid state drive is a very welcome one. Since the drive does not contain any moving parts it is very unlikely that it will become faulty. Also since it is incorporated with express cache technology, data transfers to and from it will be very fast. So, all the documents that need quick access as well as the programs can be stored in this drive.
There is also a regular hard disk in it. The 13.3 inch version comes with a 500 GB hard disk and the 14 inch version has a 1 TB hard disk. The latter model also has the advantage of the presence of an optical drive. This is a very notable feature since most ultrabooks do not come with an optical drive in order to decrease the dimension of the device. The number of connectivity options including Wi-Fi and USB along with the powerful graphics card makes these devices equally useful for work as well as for home use.
The price of Samsung's new ultrabooks is not revealed but they can be assumed to be affordable. They will make their debut in South Korea by the end of this month.
