Sony's Reinvented Vaio Y Notebook
Sony Vaio YB now has a 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU with AMD E-350 processor that provides it with much better performance, coupled with the AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics. While the Vaio Y had a 13-inch display this has lower, only 11.6 inches. Nevertheless, the display is glossy and features LED backlighting with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The Vaio YB now actually resembles more like the W model of Vaio series than the 2010-spec Sony Vaio Y. You can keep the Vaio YB as good as new thanks to the metallic finish that is resistant to fingerprints. The hard drive and RAM are also easy-to-locate thanks to the conveniently placed bottom panel.
Sony Vaio YB has three USB 2.0 ports for better connectivity though the absence of USB 3.0 was conspicuous. Other standard features include media phone jacks, Gigabit LAN, VGA, SDHC card slot and HDMI out. Aesthetics is one area where Sony Vaio scores highly. This is evident in not only the fingerprint-resistant metallic matte finish, but also the chiclet-style keyboard, touchpad. You don't have to worry about the odd feeling of button-less usage as the touchpad is full of real buttons. But even for an 11-inch notebook the touchpad seems a tad too small.
Performance of Sony Vaio YB is simply stunning thanks to the Fusion technology from AMD. The dual-core CPU, Radeon graphics processing unit and 1.6 GHz clock speed are all placed on a single processor as part of the AMD "Zacate" E-350 APU (Accelerated Processing Unit).
Battery life has risen as well, to 6 hours, meaning Vaio YB is ideal for travel and outdoor use. It is loaded with 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium operating system with 4GB DDR3 1066 MHz memory and 500GB, 5400 rpm HDD . It has a 6-cell 38Wh Li-ion battery. Wireless connectivity is ensured by the Atheros 802.11b/g/n wireless. Weighing at only 3.24 pounds, featuring an attractive and cute design that is resistant to fingerprints, and improved performance and features put Sony Vaio YB notebook above many of its rivals in the desirability scales.
So there you have it. Sony has really made a leap forward with revolutionary changes to its Sony Vaio Y notebook. These changes have made Vaio YB a completely different notebook altogether, one that you'd want to get your hands on. But there's a catch! As much as it is better-featured and higher performing than notebooks from competing brands, Vaio YB also has a greater price in India, around Rs. 26,760.
