Introducing, The World's Fastest Supercomputer

The fastest computer in the world has finally arrived. This time it promises to complete complicated numerical problems that take months together in just a couple of minutes.

The 'brainchild' created by a high performance computerting system at the Depatment of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National laboratory is an upgraded version of the Cray XT to 119 teraflops in 2006, and 263 teraflops in 2007. In 2008, the new 1.64-petaflop system had about 182,000 AMD Opteron processing cores, which made it over 60 times larger than its original predecessor.
