Apple iPod touch 16GB Launched: Sixth Generation iPod Has No Rear Camera But A 4 Inch Retina Display

Apply has recently disclosed their latest iPod Touch with 16GB storage capacity which is already selling at $229 (Rs. 12,874) on Apple's online store. The music player is actually a downgraded version of the predecessor fifth generation iPod touch 32GB/64 GB.

 It is very unlikely to call it a sixth generation iPod as it doesn't have anything new in it. Ipod touch 16GB is also now a bit cheaper than the other two variants that are priced at $299 (Rs. 16,808 approx.) and $399 (Rs. 22,429 approx.).

Comparatively, the new iPod 16GB and the iPod touch 32GB/64GB variants not only have different features in terms storage capacity but also one can mark the difference in the camera specs.

In fact, iPod touch 32GB/64GB have sport a 5 megapixel iSight camera with features such as autofocus, tap to focus video or still images, backside illumination, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, LED flash, ƒ/2.4 aperture, face detection, panorama, HDR, HD video recording (1080p) up to 30 frames per second with audio. It also had a facetime HD camera with 1.2MP photos and HD video (720p) up to 30 frames per second, video stabilization, tap to control exposure for video or stills, photo and video geotagging over Wi-Fi.

Coming on to the new iPod touch with 16 GB storage capacity, it has a front facing 1.2MP camera which can shoot HD video (720p) up to 30 frames per second. iPod touch 16 GB surprisingly lacks the original 5MP rear camera and is basically stripped down version of iPod touch 32GB/64GB. However, still the sixth generation iPod toucht retains features like face detection, tap to control exposure for video or stills and photo and video geotagging over Wi-Fi.

Other than the difference mentioned above, most of the specs remain the same inside the 6.1mm-thick case. There is no change in the dimensions, processor, which is a dual core A5 and four inch retina display. One more difference is that this version of iPod will come only in a single silver design. This device has a bit lesser weight of 86 grams while the 32GB and 64 GB variants weigh 88 grams.

To review on the price of the device, one would rather add another four thousand rupees or ten to get the older variants with 5MP camera and more storage capability. But to those who were looking for just the best audio iPod, this might serve your purpose.

May be the possibilities are that the brand new iPod touch 16GB might not click the crowd internationally, but GizBot believes, the new media player will definitely rock among the Indian Apple fanboys, if it comes with a decent price quote.
