IFA 2015 is about to kick start in a day and LG has already started making announcements about its new devices that will be showcased at the annual trade show in Berlin. The company announced that it will be launching a new device at IFA, which will be enable regular home appliances to converse with other devices.
LG has revealed the SmartThinQ Sensor that can be connected to any conventional appliance like a television, refrigerator, air conditioner or more to turn them into a smart connected device.
The SmartThinQ Sensor comes with smart sensors such as motion or temperature sensors, which can interpret certain motions or actions into information that will be shared through the SmartThinQ mobile application.
For instance, if the LG SmartThinQ Sensor is attached on a refrigerator, it will give details about the number of times the door has been opened or about when a product kept inside is about to turn bad. When attached to a washing machine, it will track the cycle of the machine, by picking up its viberations through sensors. All of the information will be displayed on the SmartThinQ app on user's smartphone.
So this will not exactly turn an old device to a smart one, but will add to the usability and experience by connecting to the device.
In addition to this, LG has also announced Smart Lightwave Oven and Smart Air Conditioner smart appliances, which can be operated using a smartphone. The Smart Lightwave Oven allows downloading and sharing recipes with others. The smart air conditioner, on the other hand, gets an additional feature which will inform user when it will be time to replace the air filter.
LG has not yet revealed details about the availability or pricing for any of these smart device. We will be giving you more information about these once these will be display at IFA 2015.
