The SmartThinQ Sensor comes with smart sensors such as motion or temperature sensors, which can interpret certain motions or actions into information that will be shared through the SmartThinQ mobile application.
For instance, if the LG SmartThinQ Sensor is attached on a refrigerator, it will give details about the number of times the door has been opened or about when a product kept inside is about to turn bad. When attached to a washing machine, it will track the cycle of the machine, by picking up its viberations through sensors. All of the information will be displayed on the SmartThinQ app on user's smartphone.
So this will not exactly turn an old device to a smart one, but will add to the usability and experience by connecting to the device.
