Samsung released its first smartwatch, Galaxy Gear last year. The smart wearable computing device hit the Indian shores in September 2013 at the price of Rs. 22,990. The smartwatch received a price cut-down to Rs. 18,999 earlier this month. Now, yet again, surprising all its fans, the company has once again brought the price of the device down to Rs. 14,999.
The latest price drop was revealed on Twitter by a retailer in Mumbai, Mahesh Telecom. The tweet reads, "PRICE DROP #samsung #galaxygear NEW PRICE ₹ 14999/-"
Moreover, when it was initially released globally, the South Korean smartphone maker followed a clever scheme and bundled it with the Galaxy Note 3, the company's last year's flagship smartphone. However, that didn't work to the company's expectations.
Also the device was not compatible with other Samsung smartphones when it was launched. But soon the company released an update that enabled the support for the Galaxy Gear with other smartphones like Galaxy S4 and more. The device is not fully smart and the its functions are mostly dependent on the parent smartphone.
It comes with a 1.63-inch AMOLED display offering a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. It is powered by a 800MHz processor and backed by 512MB of RAM and internal memory. The device is compatible with select Galaxy handsets (above Android 4.3 Jelly Bean).
Well, the Galaxy Gear cannot be connected with iOS powered devices. It also comes with an integrated camera that can take pictures as well as record videos in 720p HD quality. You can receive notifications, SMS, messages, receive / dial calls and much more with the smartwatch.
