PS4 Release Update: Sony Next Gen Gaming Console Delayed Until 2014 in UK [REPORT]
After years of silence and long delays PlayStation 4 (PS4) is set to be revealed on February 20 at New York City. The high-profile gaming event will eventually mark the beginning of next-gen console gaming making Sony the first mover when compared to its closest arch rival - Microsoft. Although, the Wii maker has already launched 8th generation gaming revolution with Wii- U, but the sales are way below to talk about and most importantly many developers do not consider it as a real next-generation console.
The Japanese tech giant is about to announce its flagship console later this month at New York city ; the release date of European territory have been pushed further. It is said that PlayStation 4 is coming later this year in American and Japanese markets. In a report published by EDGE, there could be distribution issues which made Sony to delay its beefed home console in European territory.
Europe (including PAL territories) is the biggest market for PlayStation. In late last year, the PS3 maker announced that the company managed to sell as many as 30 million PlayStation 3 consoles. If any kind of delay in case of PS4 happens then Sony could lose a significant portion of ardent PlayStation fans in at least Europe.
PlayStation 4 - Sony's future console
PlayStation 4 for Sony could be a last chance to prove its mighty dominance. This year the Japanese giant ended the production of PlayStation 2(PS2), a devil console in its own. But, one cannot speak the same in case of PlayStation 3(PS3). In the beginning, PS3 was termed as an expensive piece of paperweight due to reasonably high cost and also due to lack of exclusives. Although the console was the first one to be introduced as all-in-one machine, but regular controversies become synonymous; including highly- talked about PlayStation Network breach.
Competition Check
Alongside PS4, Microsoft is also planning to launch the follow-up of Xbox 360. The console although failed to catch up in Japanese market. But, holds a dominant position in U.S.A and U.K markets where PS3 has been looked as just another home console. Rumors are rife that the Xbox maker is due announce its next-generation console at E3 gaming conference, slated to happen in June, at Los Angeles. Nintendo is strolling with its Wii- U console as sales are way below than expected.
Besides traditional console makers there are indie console makers who are getting recognized lately. For instance, Ouya-a kickstarter gaming console maker, who all set to launch its $USD99 (Rs.5249) Android - based gaming console this year. Analysts predicting demise in the home-console market in the coming years due to rise of indie console gaming makers, and app based gaming in general.
