Sega Mega drive ahead in the best console battle
The competition between different gaming consoles have been there from the time these device came into the market. Major competitors like Nintendo, Sega etc have had a healthy competition among them and this led to the production of many high tech gaming gadgets.
Recently Playr2.com did a research to find the favourite vintage gaming console among the gamers and general public. This survey was conducted among 1411 gamers from Britain aged 18 and over. They were asked to name their favourite vintage gaming console and 61 per cent of them named Sega Mega Drive as their favourite device.
This amazing device was launched back in 1988 in Japan. It came into US at about 1989 and there it was termed as Sega genesis. This device was on sale till 1998 and by that time more than 8 million mega drives where sold. Also the device already had a cult following. There huge fan following because of the variety of the games the gadget supported and its graphics offering. The features of the console was also very attractive and allowed gamers to have hours of nonstop fun.
The second console that came up as a favourite was Nintendo 64. This was a 64 bit console and was launched during the year 1996 in Japan. It came to Europe in the year 1997. This game was introduced during the time when most of the companies where turning to CD’s and DVD’s but still it achieved a very good sales figure and became a favourite among lots of gamers. This was one of the last cartridge based device to hit the market and later on the market was taken over by DVD’s and Blu-Rays.
The next in the list of favourites is Atari 2600 and it is closely followed by the original Playstation. After this video game boom of the 90’s the sector gained very high importance and more and more manufactures came up with their devices. Portable gaming consoles also gained popularity around this time.
Nintendo also gained place in many gamers heart with their Gameboys, Nintendo entertainment system and Super Nintendo Entertainment system. These devices occupy the fifth sixth and seventh positions respectively. The next devices in the line are Sega Game gear and Neo-Geo which occupies the eighth and ninth positions. Sega master systems occupy the tenth position with a considerable number of votes.
The survey highlights the fact that most of the gamers carry with themselves the nostalgic memories of their child hood games and the consoles.
