Sony recently confirmed the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling home console of 2014. The PlayStation 4 remains Sony's fastest selling console in PlayStation history with 18.5 million sold through after just 14 months in the market.

PS4's success is largely due to the fact that the console made a huge impact on the United States of America, by far the biggest market for gaming consoles.

That said, Sony has indeed tasted success with its hotly discussed gaming console - the PS4. However, the growing popularity of Microsoft's Xbox One may force Sony to launch the PS4 at a discounted price.

So far, Sony hasn't announce a price drop for the PS4; instead, it seems that the tech giant from Japan could possibly announce a slimmer variant of the home console in the coming days to come.

It appears that Sony has a new PS4 model that's expected to be showcased at the annual E3 gaming show this year. The leaked images come from Italian games site Multiplayer Italy, and allegedly reveal a new slim sized version for the PS4 console.

According to the images the small sized PS4 is code named "Monolith". The leaked picture if the upcoming console model show off a side-mounted disc slot as well as new eject and power buttons, making the model look quite identical to an average sized portable DVD player. Again it's just rumours and will be taken with a pinch of salt.
If Sony is working on a new PS4 model, we'll definitely get to know in the coming days to come.

Sony is no stranger to shrinking the sizes of its consoles to make them cheaper to build. As mentioned earlier, Sony needs to put an extra effort to muscle down Xbox One in the console war. With a slimmer PS4 model, Sony has a fair chance to become competitive to Microsoft, who had managed to sell a few thousand more units of Xbox One in November and December.

In another news, Sony will finally launch the PlayStation TV in India next month. The micro-console, which lets you play PS Vita, PS One and PSP games on the TV, will cost Rs. 12,990. It comes in the form of a packaged bundle, which includes the main unit, a DualShock 3 controller, an 8GB of memory card and 4 downloadable games.
