Considering the rising incidents of theft and the busy schedule that each one us have, it often becomes difficult for all of us to monitor our house when at work or out.
Although we wish to monitor what's happening in our house in our absence, spending on getting an external webcam is something that we don't wish to do. However, now you don't have to invest in any of the available fancy wireless network cameras to set up your own home monitoring system.
So, here at GIZBOT we have come up with a solution to turn your PC into an efficient webcam to monitor your complete home, when you're at work or have gone out. Here's how you can do it.
STEP 1: Download Yawcam
Yawcam is a free Java webcam app that enables you to use any camera attached to your PC to capture a live feed, and publish the live video from the Web-connected PC.
STEP 3: Configure your Webcam in Yawcam
Open the app, click on Settings, and chose the camera that you want to use. In case you have an integrated camera option, click on it. Let Yawcam detect your camera after which it will open a new preview window with the camera's video feed.
STEP 4: Configure the Motion-detection Feature
Next, click on the Window menu and select Motion Detection option. Doing so, the window will show you a preview of the motion that your camera is detecting.
Go to the Setting menu and fine-tune the motion-detection features. The user can also play around with the settings and confine the motion detection to a certain area of the camera image and tweak the sensitivity level.
STEP 5: Set up Yawcam's email function
After setting up your PC to behave as a webcam in your absence, you should ensure that you get the email notifications fixed to receive the real-time feeds. So with Yawcam, you can easily monitor what's happening in your home even when you are away through email alerts.
You can configure Yawcam with your email so as to receive snapshots whenever the motion detector is triggered. Go to Settings>Click on Action tab>Check Send email and proceed with the settings as per your email account type to receive each and every suspicious activity happening in your house.
