Google SMS Chat service on Gmail: How to Use It?
Google on Wednesday announced that it has added India to the list of over 50 countries which are offered to send free text messages from Gmail. Going by numerous reports, the new SMS service introduced by the software giant will let all the Indian account holders of Gmail to send a text messages from a Gmail window to a mobile phone and receive replies as chat messages.
The all new free Gmail SMS service will be available in India on eight major mobile service operators including Aircel, Idea, Loop Mobile, MTS, Reliance, Tata DoCoMo, Tata indicom and Vodafone (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal & Andaman and Nicobar, Assam, North East).
Google has also listed in itssupport page for SMS chat in Gmail about all these mobile operators availability.
Reportedly, Gmail SMS chat wont offer unlimited messages, instead the service will avail a maximum credit of 50 SMSs that will be replenished with SMS replies, which will be billed at the standard rate. This will hinder spammers from using the service without placing an undue burden on users. Further, if a user runs out of the credit, then new credits will slowly get recharged, moreover they also can be purchased.
At the same time, the subscribers who want to opt out of receiving Gmail chat SMSs can choose to block specific users or all messages.
How to Use the SMS Chat service on Gmail?
Step 1: Start with typing contact's name in the 'Search or invite friend's' box in the chat column and then a box will appear on the right corner, asking you to select Send SMS option. Click 'Select'.
Step 2: If the contact is already present in you Chat list, open the chat window of the desired contact, click 'Options' and select 'Send SMS'.
Step 3: Consequently, enter the phone number in the 'Send SMS mesagges to the numerber' field.
Step 4: Click to check the list of supported countries and operators.
Step 5: Select 'Save'.
Step 6: After a Chat window pops out, type your message and hit the 'Enter' button.
Congratulations! Your message is sent to your desired contact. Follow the same process to inform others about the new Chat SMS service on Gmai.
