Do Not Disturb in iOS 8 is one of the well-thought feature, but unfortunately many of us probably didn't know about. The Do Not Disturb mode is possibly an apt way to silence calls or notifications or even alerts for that matter without blocking a specific person.

Do Not Disturb differs from Mute
The difference here, as we see it, is that the physical button located on your device can mute your ringtones and app alters - but not your alarms. The Do Not Disturb mode silences your ringtones, alerts from email and other apps, while your device is locked. Interestingly, you can schedule Do Not Disturb for a certain time in a day.

You can switch on Do Not Disturb in Control Center, by swiping up from the bottom of your screen at any time, and then tapping the crescent moon icon. When Do Not Disturb is on, a crescent moon, or half-moon, icon will appear in the status bar.

Search for the Do Not Disturb mode in the Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
