How to block specific websites access in your computer?
There are several instances in which the user’s computer will be used by their friends or children to access websites that may have been affected by viruses and eventually causes harm to your computer. This in turn will make the user’s system slower in performance.
In order to stop this continuous and not so desirable usage of the websites, users can make use of several techniques in order to block specific websites.
The following steps have to be followed in order to block specific websites.
Click ‘Start’ or ‘Windows Emblem’ on the desktop screen
Select ‘All Programs’
Then click ‘Accessories’
In accessories, click ‘Command Prompt’
In the command prompt screen, type the command as ‘notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts’
A notepad screen will be opened by the Host file
Choose the line that represents ‘127.0.0.1 localhost’ without any quotation marks
Under the specified line, users will have to enter the IP Address as well as the name of website users wish to block and make sure that it is followed by a space in between
Once you finish adding all the websites that you wish to block, users will have then to save the file
Then close the file
And finally close the Command Prompt screen
Locating IP Addresses
If the users want to identify the IP addresses of the website that they wish to block, the following steps have to be followed.
Click ‘Start’
Click All Programs
Then select ‘Accessories’
Select Command Prompt
Type in the following format: “ping www.websitename.com”
Ensure that quotation marks are not used
Press Enter
IP Addresses list will appear
Copy the IP Addresses
Paste the IP Addresses in a separate notepad and save the file
Users will now have to go back to the command prompt page
Again type the command as “ping www.websitename.com” in order to locate the host file
Enter each IP addresses followed by the website name on a separate line
If the user has six different IP addresses for the same website, then the users will have to enter the IP addresses separately in each line followed by the same website name
Note
IP addresses can be defined as an ‘internet protocol addresses’ that is represented as unique set of numbers that can be connected to each computer that is connected on the internet
Always make sure that the first line that denotes 127.0.0.1 localhost file should not be changed or modified
Password helps the users in preventing others to have unauthorized access to your computer
