BlackBerry Q5 Gets Rs 6,000 Price Cut, QWERTY Phones 9720 and Curve 9320 Prices Also Slashed

BlackBerry has been receiving a lot of criticism from the tech enthusiasts in the industry for its QWERTY range of smartphones. The range includes BlackBerry Q5, 9720 and Curve 9320, which were launched in the Indian market recently.

Soon after launch, the struggling Canadian smartphone maker announced price cut to Rs. 19,990 for the BlackBerry Q5 that was launched in India back in July last year for initial price of Rs. 24,990. Still the sales figures of BlackBerry devices slumped.

Hence, to compete with the fast growing Indian smartphone market, now the company has announced another price cut for BlackBerry Q5 along with BlackBerry 9720 and the Curve 9320.

While, the BlackBerry Q5 has received a price cut of Rs 6,000, the handset will now be available in the market at a price of Rs 13,990. On the other hand, initially priced at Rs. 15,990, the BlackBerry 9720 will now be available at Rs. 11,990. Lastly, BlackBerry Curve 9320, also got a price reduction and is now available for Rs. 9,900.

Sameer Bhatia, Director, Distribution, BlackBerry, India reportedly said, "The classic BlackBerry Keyboard, re-engineered for the fast efficient navigation and one-handed use, has huge fan base who swear by the distinct typing experience that BlackBerry offers. These compelling price-points will enable QWERTY fans to experience the latest technology and ease of use in one device."

BlackBerry 9720: Key Specifications

The BlackBerry 9720 comes with a 2.8-inch HVGA display (480 x 360 pixels) with 214ppi. The device is a mash up of touch cum QWERTY -keypad and runs on BB 7 OS. Under the hood comes a 806 MHz Tavor MG1 coupled with 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM ( expandable up to 32GB via microSD card ). Other specs include: 5-mega pixel camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0, and 1450mAh Li Ion battery.

BlackBerry Q5: Key Specifications

The Q5 sports a 3.1 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen (720 x 720 pixels) display with 328ppi. It runs on BB 10.1 OS and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with dual-core processor dialed to 1.2 GHz with 2GB RAM. Other specs include: 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, front facing 2 MP camera, 2G, 3G, GPRS, SPEED, WLAN, Bluetooth and microUSB v2.0, NFC, 8GB internal storage capacity, expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card and a non-removable Li-Ion 2180 mAh battery.

BlackBerry Curve 9320: Key Specifications

BlackBerry Curve 9320 comes with a 2.44 inches with 320 x 240 pixels and 164 ppi and runs on BlackBerry OS 7.1. It comes with a 3.15MP rear camera with LED flash but lacks a front facing shooter. It is powered by a 806 MHz Processor with 512 MB RAM and 512 MB Onboard Memory with a micorSD card slot. Connectivity options include: 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. It draws its energy from a 1450 mAh removable/rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
