BlackBerry Z30 Hands On: First Look

Talking about the performance, BlackBerry Z30 is not worthy to be compared with a device as beefy as the Galaxy Note 3. Under the hood, the BlackBerry Z30 comes with a dual-core chipset clocking at 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with quad-core graphics. It is to be noted that we do face some serious lags, while testing the device for a brief period of time. Priced at Rs. 39,990, GizBot would like to see a super powerful quad-core processor in the BB Z30.

The BlackBerry Z30 now comes pre-loaded with the latest version of BB 10 OS. The BlackBerry 10.2 OS has added incremental features: Priority Hub, lock screen alerts, and there is another added function where you can respond to you a BBM message while using another app. The only disadvantage of BlackBerry 10 OS is the limited number of apps available in the market place. Some of the most popular and sought after apps are still not available, which could result in a stale experience for apps-heavy users.

There's a non-removable 2880mAh battery fitted inside. In fact, the battery is surely making the phone even heavier than the competitive handsets. The rear cover is removable, while the battery is fixed. It is the most bizarre decision took by BlackBerry's design team.

The 8MP rear back camera has Auto Focus and built-in LED Flash. The camera UI is very basic, and BlackBerry has not made any effort to improve camera experience. The quality of pictures taken with BlackBerry Z30 shows some serious flaws. The 2MP camera on the front is still better for video chat. There is no dedicated camera button either.

Alongside a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, the phone packs 2GB RAM and 16GB of ROM. The internal memory is expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card slot.

BlackBerry claims that the BB Z30 offers advanced sound quality. The music player lacks a basic feature like an equalizer.

Overall, the BlackBerry Z30 is an average device. There are some major flaws found inside the device, which could in fact make or break the image of BlackBerry in India.
