One main factor that a customer considers while buying a smart phone is to see whether it is easy to operate as well as whether it is easy to type out messages and send emails in it. Earlier the phones had alphanumeric keypads which made it a bit difficult to type out what we wanted. Then came the QWERTY keypad phones and many users preferred it for their business use.
This is where the advantage of touch and type phones comes into focus. LG Beacon is such a messaging centered phone.

This is a very compact phone and has dimensions of 103 mm x 53 mm x 17 mm. The overall weight of the device is 124 gram. That is amazingly light weight for such a slider design phone. The phone comes in amazing dual tone colour combinations .There are even very bold colours like red available .The front portion has a black finish with the sides accentuated with the chosen colour. The QWERTY keypad too comes in the same colour.
LG Beacon packs in a 2.8 inch display. The screen has a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. It is of TFT type and can produce 2, 62,144 individual colours. The touch screen controls are very sensitive and a small touch is enough to register the operation. The inbuilt camera is of 1.3 mega pixels and it is sufficient enough to take moderate quality pictures.
This is a CDMA phone and supports CDMA operating frequencies like 800, 1700/2100 and 1900. The internal memory of the phone is 90 MB. So there is well enough space for storing all the messages, phone book entries as well as the call list. The external memory can be increased by the addition of a microSD type memory card. It can be expanded to up to 16 GB. The phone is powered by a 1000mAh battery and it can provide the phone with about 480 hours of standby time as well as 6 hours of talk time. The phone has Bluetooth and USB connectivity too.
LG Beacon’s price tag is not very clear but is expected to be less than Rs.4, 000/- in India.
