Exclusive: Lava To Launch Dual Core Smartphone Below Rs 5,000 Very Soon
Lava International, one of the most visible names in the Indian mobile phone market is all set to come up with a dual core smartphone below Rs. 5,000. This information was shared to GizBot by a senior company official during the recently held Lava Blogosphere event in Delhi. The Lava official disclosed that the handset will be running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is coming "very soon".
While, the exact release date was not shared by the official, however, going by the previous launches, GizBot believes that the upcoming phone would come around June last week or July first week. At the same time, nothing else was disclosed by the company in regards to the other features of the smartphone.
Expect Dirt Cheap Smartphones from Manufacturers
Late last year Japanese giant Sony decided to stop selling feature phones in India. Industry insiders believe that feature phone market is dead - thanks to the coming of affordable smartphones penetrating in the market.
Google's Android mobile OS is the reason why tech vendors managed to reduce the prices of their respective hardware. Earlier this year, research firm Nielsen published a report titled "The Mobile Consumer: A Global Snapshot".
The researchers studied consumer behavior and their choice of devices in both, emerging as well as developed countries. It was found that around 80 % of users in India still use feature phones, while only 10% had smartphones.
Consequently, every tech vendor in India has already launched low cost Android phones for price sensitive consumers, while International tech vendors are also coming with low cost alternatives. Nobody has set a trend by offering the most demanded specifications in the low segment category. A country where smartphone market is around 10%, it is fact that large number of consumers go for affordable price especially under Rs. 5,000.
As far as competition which lies ahead for the upcoming Lava offering is India's one of the favorite mobile makers right now - Micromax. The home grown manufacturer has already launched a dual core CPU smartphone in the market at a cost of Rs 6,250 - A89 Ninja. The handset is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor accompanied by 512MB of RAM. Further, it is a Dual SIM handset equipped with a 4-inch WVGA display, Android 4.0 ICS out of the box, 3-mega pixel rear facing camera without built-in flash and1450 mAh Li Ion battery inside.
At the same time, Samsung, the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones has recently launched Galaxy Star in the Indian market. It packs 1GHz Cortex -A5 processor, 512MB of RAM, a 3-inch display, 4GB of internal memory, a 2MP rear facing camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Dual SIM, and a 1200mAh battery. It is priced at Rs. 5,240.
