Exclusive: LG's Next Gen Smartwatch Coming in First Half of 2014
South Korean tech giant LG is all set to push wearable computing devices to the next-level in 2014.
LG, already showcased its Lifeband Touch, an advance fitness tracker band for Indian market at Tech Show 2014 held on Monday. LG plans to release the device in the market in the second half of 2014.
However, don't be surprised if you get to see yet another intriguing wearable device from the house of LG in the first half of 2014 as a part of global launch.
At LG Tech Show 2014, held in Delhi-NCR on Monday, a high profile senior official has apparently informed GizBot that LG's first-generation smartwatch is coming soon, indicating that it will be announced in the first half of 2014.
In an exclusive conversation with GizBot, the high-profile executive also confirmed that the intelligent watch will be "much much advance" in comparison to Samsung's Galaxy Gear.
Software giant Google was working on a top-secret smartwach internally code-named Gem, and GizBot has exclusively learned that the project was canned completely after Google sold Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for USD $2.91 billion. Hence, Google has no choice but to rely on its trusted OEM hardware partners to produce a smartwatch.
We had been hearing that Google's smartwatch will be made by LG. Until now, there has been no clear indication given on the possible collaboration of LG and Google to create an insanely worthy wearable computing device.
Now, we got to know that LG is indeed in talks with Google as a preferred hardware partner for the upcoming Google-branded smartwatch. Also, it seems that LG may emerge as the winner to produce Google's first-generation smartwatch. For the reminder, LG has been the OEM partner for Nexus smartphones (Nexus 4 and Nexus 5).
We have already heard rumors of possible features of yet-to-be announced LG made smartwatch, but right now the company is no mood to spell beans on the same.
At this year's Mobile World Congress, LG's arch rival- Samsung announced the coming of Gear 2 smartwatch , alongside a fitness band. It should be noted that Apple's first-generation intelligent watch, is rumored to hit retail shelves in the second half of 2014. Even Taiwan's HTC is expected to reveal a wearable computing device around Christmas 2014.
