Will the OnePlus 3 be the next Flagship Killer? Here are all the rumored specifications!
OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, recently confirmed that the company's next flagship smartphone - the OnePlus 3 - was in the works and would be out to the public by June 2016. Following the announcement, GizmoChina has gotten hold of confirmed leaks and rumors that suggest that the OnePlus 3 is coming in April this year, according to an Antutu benchmarking test.
With leaks and rumors building up towards the actual launch, we have a list of the specifications that you can expect from the upcoming OnePlus 3.
1. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset
The flagship mobile processor for 2016, from Qualcomm, is the Snapdragon 820. Having already debuted with the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the LeEco Le Max Pro, the Snapdragon 820 promises to be almost 80% faster than the Snapdragon 810 and also solve the infamous heating issues that its predecessor had to face.
Coupled with the Adreno 530 GPU, this new processor is nothing short of a beast and when optimized with CyanogenMod, will definitely pack quite a punch.
2. USB Type-C connector port
With the world moving towards this new technology for charging and data syncing, it was but natural for OnePlus to incorporate the USB Type-C port on their flagship for 2015, OnePlus 2. The OnePlus is also expected to carry forward the legacy of the OnePlus 2. With a reversible connector and fast charging support, the port will help offer better battery performance during regular daily usage.
3. Cyanogen Mod OS
It is quite strange to notice that almost all rumors point towards the probability of CyanogenMod OS making a comeback with the OnePlus 3. After an ugly spat between the two companies before in early 2015, the OnePlus 2 was launched with the company's custom OS - Oxygen OS - in June 2015.
But, now with their upcoming phone launch, we might witness the CyanogenMod finally making a comeback with the OnePlus 3 running the latest version of CM - based on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It's good to see CM returning to the brand that made the software mainstream, in the first place.
4. Similar storage variants
Like the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus 3 is also expected to come with two memory/storage variants - a 32GB model with 3GB of RAM and a 64GB option with 4GB of RAM. Opting for the same RAM capacity as its predecessor, the OnePlus will be another example of how the OEMs have been rushing to increase their performance at a time when the consumer does not necessarily need it.
5. Sleeker form factor
The OnePlus One as well as the OnePlus 2, have sported similar 5.5-inch Full HD displays, something that terms these devices as phablets. It is expected that OnePlus is looking to modify this image and make the OnePlus 3 much more compact.
Expected to sport a 5.2-inch Full-HD display, the OnePlus 3 will be sleeker, but a lot similar when it comes to sharpness and contrast of the display. A lot of critics accused OnePlus of cutting short on the Quad-HD displays on the OnePlus 2, when such screens were common on flagship smartphones. It seems the company will be facing the same sort of criticism a second time with the OnePlus 3's launch.

6. Front-facing speakers?
With the renders now leaked, it is almost certain that the OnePlus 3 will not sport any rear speakers, as is the case with the OnePlus 2. Instead, the phone could have front-facing dual speakers, on top and bottom of the display. This kind of a speaker setup is quite rare in the current smartphone market and has proven to be effective. Also, the smartphone is expected to provide an enclosure feel, that HTC has been implementing on their phone for the past couple of years.
7. Design elements
With manufacturing and licensing standards getting stricter, it is not surprising that we already have renders for the OnePlus 3. These leaks from suggest that the design of the OnePlus 3 will be quite similar to its predecessor, the OnePlus 2. With a clean camera and LED flash setup on the top, the renders show that the back of the device has been kept rather minimal. Also, something to note here is that the smartphone doesn't have any rear speakers, pointing towards the strong rumor of front-facing speakers on the OnePlus 3.
