Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is expected to launch a camera-centric smartphone called the R9. The company has already shared a teaser of an upcoming smartphone on social media, though, there is no confirmation on the launch date.

The smartphone is said to look very similar to the iPhone 6s Plus. The teaser image highlights the number '9' and the text suggests that the phone could come with some innovative camera technology.

At Mobile World Congress 2016, Oppo unveiled its innovative camera technology called SmartSensor Image Stabilization, a Pixel-level optical image stabilizer.

The SmartSensor for image stabilization come with three axes, pitch, yaw and the all-important roll. Making split-second adjustments with its comb-shaped monocrystalline silicon MEMS, SmartSensor achieves full three-axis image stabilization in a mere 15 milliseconds.

At the same time, SmartSensor uses a voltage-driven sensor, reducing power consumption to as low as 10 milliwatts, 50 times less than the power consumption of lens-based solutions.

With SmartSensor, Oppo smartphones become like pocket-sized SLR cameras, able to capture life's beautiful moments in breathtaking detail. Even when lighting conditions aren't ideal, such as at a party or concert, SmartSensor ensures clear and bright images by allowing a longer exposure time.

The upcoming Oppo R9 is expected to come with a 6-inch quad-HD display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. As most 2016 flagship smartphones, the R9 will probably be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 3GB or 4GB RAM.

While, this time around, Xiaomi has fitted the Sony IMX298 sensor onto their flagship smartphone, the Mi 5. The new camera has a 16-MP sensor and features like Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS as well as 4K video recording. The camera is capable of recording slo-mo video upto 120 FPS. The front camera also has an upgraded 4-MP sensor with a pixel size of 2um.

Oppo has announced the Super VOOC Flash Charge technology at MWC 2016. The Super VOOC Flash Charge improves on the original VOOC Flash Charge introduced by Oppo in 2014. The Super VOOC takes it to the next level, offering a full 10 hours of talk time with only five minutes of charging, and filling a 2500 mAh battery in only 15 minutes.

On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 5 is packed with 3,000mAh battery packed under the hood but the most interesting feature of the battery is its fast charging capabilities. Powered by the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology, the company claims that the Xiaomi Mi 5 can go from 0% to 80% battery level in just about 35 minutes.

Oppo R9 is expected to come with a 6-inch quad-HD display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. While the Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

Like all flagship smartphones of 2016, Oppo R9 will probably come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 3GB or 4GB RAM. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 5 also features Snapdragon 820 processor and also packs in 3GB and 4GB RAM variant.

The latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be running most of the 2016 flagship smartphones. The Oppo R9 is also expected to run on Android Marshmallow with ColorOS on top. The Xiaomi Mi 5 also runs on Android Marshmallow and has MIUI 7 on top.

Another addition to the Oppo R9 could be the fingerprint scanner, which has become a standard feature on most flagship smartphones. Well, Xiaomi Mi 5 has a fingerprint scanner on the home button just below the display.

The Oppo R9 is said to pack 64GB of internal storage and will come with a microSD card slot for expanding storage. Well, the Xiaomi Mi 5 comes in three variants, according to memory and storage differentiation. One with 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of internal storage, the second one has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and the premium variant has 4GB of RAM accompanied with 128GB of internal storage. All the options have a slot for expandable storage via MicroSD card support.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes in three variant: the 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM is priced approx Rs. 21,000, the 64GB model is priced approx Rs. 24,000 and the premium variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM is priced approx Rs. 28,000. Well, there is no details about the pricing details of the Oppo R9 yet.

Oppo's Chinese competitor - Xiaomi, which announced its latest flagship Mi 5 at MWC 2016, has already received 17 million registrations for its first flash sale in China. The Oppo R9 has the similar hardware specifications with latest camera technology and an innovative fast charging technology makes the device a tough competitor.
