Recently, an alleged screenshot of the MIUI 9 popped online revealing its version number (188.8.131.52). In addition, a post on the MIUI forum revealed details about the eligible devices that will receive the update. Although there's no official word on these details, let's take a look at what rumours point to.
Redmi Note 3 to Mi 4i, all support MIUI 9
The rumoured devices which are expected to receive the update include Redmi Note 3, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Mi 4s, Mi 4c, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi Note, and Mi Pad 2. A few recently launched devices like Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus were not mentioned in this list. However, we believe that, more devices will be added to this list once Xiaomi officially announces MIUI 9.
The MIUI 9 update is expected to bring support for multi-window, something similar to the one seen on Samsung's smartphones. This feature allows your smartphone to run two apps side-by-side.
Quick-reply from notifications
Similar to Apple's quick-reply from the notifications, the MIUI 9 is rumoured to allow users to reply text messages from the notifications itself. Instant messaging apps like WhatsApp, Hike, and Telegram will also support this feature.
Optimised Doze mode
Google, with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, unveiled the new Doze mode to provide additional battery life by killing the background apps. The MIUI 9 may bring an optimised version of this feature similar to what Google did with the Doze mode on Android 7.0 Nougat.
The all new project svelte mode is rumoured to optimise the RAM usage and minimise the amount of memory used by the system and other apps.
Improved data saver
The MIUI 9 is expected to bring along an optimised version of the existing data saver mode in order to further reduce the data consumption by the apps running in the background.
The MIUI 9 will allegedly come with always-ON VPN. Meaning, additional security and anonymity.
Call screening blocking feature
The new update is expected to allow its users to block unwanted callers. It is also rumoured to offer support call screening.
