Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime Launched in India at Rs. 8,999: 10 Things to Know

It's not a surprise to see Xiaomi concentrating on the Indian market so much this year with a slew of launches seen in the market including Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi Mi5 and Mi Max Phablet.

Now, as promised, the Chinese handset maker Xiaomi has launched Redmi 3s and Redmi 3s Prime smartphones in the Indian market starting from Rs 6,999.

Initially, this smartphone was launched in China back in June in two variants. The company Redmi 3s Prime have the same look and feel as that of Redmi 3s with an additional fingerprint sensor on the back and 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage space.

Talking about the price point, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S carries a price tag of Rs. 6,999 for the 2GB RAM with 16GB inbuilt storage variant and Rs. 8,999 for the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage variant that is the Redmi 3s Prime.

Moreover, these smartphones are made in India as Xiaomi joined the 'Made in India' initiative last year.

Initially, both the smartphones will be available exclusively on Mi.com and Flipkart through an open sale. Redmi 3S Prime will be available starting August 9th, while the Redmi 3S will be available starting from August 16th.

In terms of design, the Redmi 2 successor is a mix of Mi 4 and Redmi Note 3. The smartphone measures 8.5mm thickness and weighs around 144 grams making it lightweight. Moreover, the devices look premium with a metal body.


The battery in the Redmi 3s and Redmi 3s Prime is a 4,100 mAh one. This is almost twice the capacity of the battery in the Redmi 2. Despite the bigger battery, the device is thinner than the Redmi 2 by 10 percent.


The Redmi 3s comes powered by an Octa-Core Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.1GHz with Adreno 505 as GPU.


On the storage front, this smartphone comes in two variants - 2GB RAM with 16GB inbuilt storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB inbuilt storage. The 3GB RAM variant is the Redmi 3s Prime. Both the devices arrive with a micro SD card slot that supports expandable storage up to 128 GB.


Talking about the specifications, the Redmi 3s sports a 5-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels on board.


Talking about the camera, the Redmi 3s flaunts a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, PDAF, f/2.0 aperture and FHD 1080p video recording. Also, there is a 5MP front camera capable of recording 1080p videos with f/2.2 aperture. The main camera has HDR and HHT models as well for different shooting conditions.


The Redmi 3S is shipped with MIUI 7 on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The device might soon get the MIUI 8 that will bring a lot of new features to it for an enhanced user experience.


The Redmi 3s supports connectivity options such as 4G, Wi-Fi, GPRS/ EDGE, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth, Glonass, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

Fast Fingerprint Scanner

The Redmi 3s Prime arrive with a fingerprint scanner that can unlock the phone pretty fast. Also, this scanner brings enhanced privacy and security as well.


With the launch, of Redmi 3s at this price point, this smartphone will compete against the likes of Moto G4, Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016), Lenovo K5 Plus and much more.
