Yu Yunicorn vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3: The Affordable Smartphone Battle Gets Fiercer
Today, Yu Yunicorn has been launched officially at a price of Rs 12,999. This smartphone comes packed with a slew of features and it is one of the good looking handsets in this price bracket.
The Yunicorn based on the Project Highway Android on Steroids will compete with several other mid-range smartphones that are available in this price range. One such smartphone is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 that is also priced at Rs 12,999.

These smartphones have decent specifications for their price tags and they are definitely good value for money offerings available in the market. Here, we have come up with a comparison between the two smartphones.
Both phones flaunt splendid looks
Yu Yunicorn features a premium design with a metal design, sleek, elegant and symmetrical design, chamfered edges, brushed aluminum back design and 2.5D arc glass at the front. Redmi Note 3 also features premium looks with unibody metal design and smooth matte finish.
FHD screens are great
Both smartphones are fitted with a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p display. The screens are scratch resistant as well. The Xiaomi phone has an upper hand in this segment as it features the Sunlight display feature that increases the contrast automatically when used under bright light conditions.

There's 4 GB RAM in Yunicorn
Redmi Note 3 features an octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor that is teamed up with 3 GB RAM. On the other hand, the Yunicorn is powered by an octa-core Helio P10 processor that is teamed up with 4 GB RAM that will be better in terms of multitasking.
Both phones feature 32 GB of native storage space that can be expanded up to 128 GB using a micro SD card.
Camera is decent enough
Redmi Note 3 boasts a 16 MP main snapper with dual-tone LED flash and a 5 MP front-facer for selfies. Yunicorn arrives with a 13 MP rear camera sensor and a 5 MP front-facing selfie shooter on board.
Project Highway - Android on Steroids
While Redmi Note 3 is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop topped with MIUI 7.1, Yunicorn gives a pure Android experience with Android on Steroids - Project Highway. This is an open source code supply chain management system.
Fingerprint scanners on both phones
Both smartphones have a fingerprint scanner on board. The one on the Redmi Note 3 is at its back below the camera lens. The Yunicorn's fingerprint reader is located at the front and it is claimed to provide chip-level security.

Usual connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS are included in both the smartphones as these are quite common.
Both have capacious battery
Redmi Note 3 employs a 4,050 mAh battery and Yunicorn is fueled by a 4,000 mAh battery. Both phones support fast charging feature as well. These capacious batteries give amazing backup to these smartphones.
Yunicorn has Social Cloud and Around Yu
The Yunicorn features an upgraded Around Yu platform that brings many services under one platform. The Social Cloud is a feature that will let users upload their photos to the cloud, share them with their friends and view the photos of their friends on their phone.
Both the smartphones are aggressively priced and they carry decent specs. However, the Yunicorn will be priced at Rs 12,999 only for a month and later it will be priced at Rs 14,999.
