However, with the changing trend and shift of consumer's demand, now in 2013, the over-sized "Phablet" devices have become a fashion statement, where everyone in the nation wants to own one.

Thus, to fulfill the demands of the consumer and sheep sales from the growing category, various local and global smartphone vendors have come up with numerous choices satisfy the emerging wants.

But one point where the Indian market excel is, proving plethora of large screen phablets at really affordable price combined with the likes of dual SIM support, Android Jelly Bean, Quad core processor and more. To compete with these low cost handsets whose demand is growing with each passing day, now even global manufactures are coming up with their budget large screen offering.

For example, despite of having a high-end phablet - Galaxy Note 2 running successfully in India, Samsung has also come up with Galaxy Grand, a dual SIM phablet at affordable price of Rs 21,500.

Unveiled in December 2012, Samsung released the dual SIM version of the phablet in India at a special event held on January 22 at an affordable price tag of Rs 21,500.

When it comes to specs, Galaxy Grand packs a 5 inch multi-touch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a very low resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, dual core 1.2GHz processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, 8GB internal storage capacity, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, HDMI, A-GPS, DLNA and a 2,100 mAh Li-ion battery, which will offer decent backup.

Micromax has made all heads turn towards it by launching a quad core Jelly Bean phablet - A116 Canvas HD housing a 5 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor, 8MP rear camera, VGA front camera for video calling, 4GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS/A-GPS.

Further, Canvas HD is loaded with a 2,100 mAh battery and comes with dual SIM feature. Micromax A116 Canvas HD is loaded with applications including M!Store, M!Buddy, M!SMS, M!Zone and Hook Up.

Though the official pricing of the handset is not revealed by Micromax, the handset is estimated to be priced below Rs 15,000.

Wickedleak launched a 5.5 inch phablet called Wammy Titan in India at a price of Rs 13,000. When it comes to other specs, the phablet sports a 5 point milti-touch Super qHD capacitive touchscreen display with 960 x 540 pixel resolution, 1.2GHz MTK6577 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, 4GB internal storage capacity, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and a 2,500 mAh battery offering 8 hours of talk time and 260 hours of stand by.

Iris 501 sports a 5 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 1GHz dual core processor, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera for video calling, 4GB internal storage, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, micro USB 2.0 and a 2,300 mAh Li-Po battery of undisclosed backup. The handset is priced reasonably at Rs 9,999 in the competitive phablet market.

Zync has refreshed its phablet - Cloud Z5 with a 1GHz dual core processor and improved Android 4.0.3 ICS OS. The device packs a 5 inch 5 point multi-touch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, dual core 1GHz processor, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 8MP rear camera, a 0.3MP front camera, 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS and 2,500 mAh Li-ion battery. The company has priced the new dual core variant at Rs 11,990 making it a little expensive as compared to the previous offering.
