Gionee Elife E7 Review: A Smartphone With the Potential To Rise
Chinese manufacturers have often found a safe haven in the Indian smartphone market. And this is due to the fact the domestic market is one of the most lucrative and exciting ones in the planet with a lot of potential waiting to be tapped into. And one such manufacturer trying to make the most of that market is the China-based Gionee setup.
With the market condition in mind, Gionee, not long ago, released the previous Elife E6 - marking the company's first official entry into the elite smartphones category in India.
The company, at that time, introduced the device with great glitz and glamor and thus making its presence known among Indian users with an aim to make a name for itself. Now the company is currently looking to hold on to that name with the release of the new Gionee Elife E7.
Contrary to its previous launches, Elife E7 is basically a premium smartphone, while also being the first one to arrive powered via a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The overall hardware specifications of the phone match up to some of the high-end phones that are currently available in the market, although the device pricing remains to be much lower, comparatively.
For the sake of comparison, compared to the last E6 offering, Gionee has bumped up the camera capabilities of the E7. And doing that makes only one of the few Android phone in India with a 16MP primary sensor.
But while all that sounds good to the ears, what are the prospects of the device in the market? Does it stand any chance against its more illustrious rivals with all its offerings, features and specifications? Let's take a closer look.
Gionee Elife E7: Design and Display
When compared to the previous Gionee Elife E6, the new E7 offering comes with a completely overhauled design. And the proof for that is the device's new monolithic design which comes consisting of a polycarbonate shell that's offered in a number of color variants. Although, on a short notice, you won't be able to make out between an E6 or E7.
And since the device is essentially offers a glossy finish, there are chances that the device will attract fingerprint marks on the device. However, that's not really a problem with the Elife E7 since the device doesn't fall to fingerprints as much as is its expected.
Moreover, there are three capacitive physical buttons present in the device for Menu, Home and Back that have been placed just below the display. The 8MP front-facing camera lens of the device is placed just above the display, alongside the sensor, although there's no branding on the front.
However, as far as things depend on our liking, sitting here with the device, the placement of the buttons on the device isn't something that we might be too fond of. For example, the power button sits right on the top of the device, making it somewhat inconvenient to reach out to since the E7 comes with a 5.5-inch display. However, the device is quite a slim one and won't feel a tick when inside the pocket.
Apart from that, the device comes with two symmetrical grills found at the bottom of the speaker and microphone. The back of the device sports the new 16MP camera sensor from OmniVision. However, the flash offering for the camera isn't something that you would brag about since it isn't that great an offering. And that's the least you can expect provided the smartphone already has a dedicated camera offering.
The sim card tray for the device can be found on the left edge of the phone, while the volume rocker key is located at the right edge. The power key and the 3.5mm headset jack are found on top, while the micro USB port sits at the bottom.
The Elife E7 also comes with a removable back and is somewhat a well crafted device, although more work was needed on the device to make it truly stand out among all other devices in the market.
