Gionee Elife S5.5 Hands-On and First Look: Attractive Price Along With Compelling Form Factor
Performance, UI and OS
One of the things about the handset that surprises the most is the performance aspect. The Elife S5.5 is such a thin phone and yet the makers have been able to drill in such a high end specs into it. In short, you will find an Octa-Core CPU clocked at 1.7GHz from MediaTek coupled with 2GB RAM powering the device. There is a Mali 450 MP Quad Core GPU as well, which means the device can handle average games easily. There were minor frame drops while playing games though. Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 with the layer of company's proprietary UI comes out of the box. For this phone the UI is tweaked to offer better colors, icons and fonts.
Overall, the device was pretty much a ace, however, need to use a bit to know more on the processing units and the internal memory of the device is 16GB, so we doubt that will be able to handle the octa core processor during pressure time. Thus for full review, wait until we come up with the full review of the handset.
Camera
Gionee has made a whole new set of camera preferences with its new UI set up which looks easier to use and also pro. The camera UI is very much similar to the ones that we have seen in the Elife E7. The 13 MP AF rear camera with single LED flash along with a massive 5.0MP AF front facing shooter, 95 Degree Ultra-Wide Angle lens is more than standard camera hardware for taking great selfies and making video calls. Moreover, in terms of setting, there are 2 different apps for the camera users which we will discuss in our full review.
The camera setting is a very interesting one which includes a resolution changer, White Balance settings, Exposure Compensation, ISO and all other functions like HDR as well. Thus you can in fact personalize each shots that you take.
A professional photographer can find all the aspects in the Gionee Elife S5.5's camera to take his favorite shot.
Battery
One thing that surprised everyone in the event was the 2300 mAh non-removable battery that powers the device. The device already is so thin that it hardly accommodates the USB port and a headphone jack on its sides. But despite the oddity, the Chinese smartphone maker managed to stuff in such a heavy battery in the device. Not only that but also the premium set of hardwares.
However, there should be some faulty channels about it. The overheating of the back panel or something. We will also let you know about it on our full review of the handset.
Bottom-LineDespite its appealing design, charming new UI and heavily nurtured camera apps, the device is yet to be judged by the customers themselves. The camera features are pretty good and the specs and other features the company is offering at the given price point is no doubt a great advantage for the device to make it to the top most best-seller's position. However, possible feedback about the Gionee Elife S5.5 could be over-heating at times (which is yet to be tested) due to its metal crafted form factor. Stay tuned to GizBot for the complete review of the handset.
