Gionee's Elife S5.5 is the latest mid-range smartphone from the surging Chinese player.
This morning, Gionee launched the world's slimmest smartphone into Indian market at a price point of Rs. 22,999. The phone boasts ultra-thin design and customized Android OS. Gionee says the device will be made available in India starting April 27.
At just 5.5mm thick, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is potentially the slimmest smartphone out there (for now). With the Elife S5.5, Gionee has once again proved that not all Chinese phones are bad looking. It has a solid build quality and looks aesthetically superior when compared to the Samsung Galaxy S5. And thankfully, the Elife S5.5 does not resemble that to Apple iPhone 5S.
If you are planning to change your current smartphone, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is indeed one the best options we would like to recommend.
Apple's iPhone 5C has been around going on 6 months, but have you ever thought to consider one? May be you have an inclination towards beautiful and well crafted handsets. In short, the Elife S5.5 is one sharp looking handset that truly shows Gionee's passion to produce great looking handsets.

Finally, China-based Gionee has launched its much waited Elife S5.5 handset into Indian market. Gionee Elife S5.5 is the world's slimmest smartphone at 5.5mm. The Elife S will be a new series for the company. The device is truly a piece of engineering. The Elife S5.5 is made out of glass and the sides are made from metal. It's stunning but at the same time the design seems original. Did you know that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 50% thicker than the Elife S5.5?
Unlike any other mid-range handset, the Elife S5.5 boasts an impressive 5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD 1080p display. The screen is sharp and produces great viewing angles. While Samsung's cheapest Full HD smartphone, the Galaxy S4, will cost upwards of Rs. 30,000.
Performance-wise, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is quite fast. After all the device is powered by a 1.7GHz Octa-Core (MediaTek), backed by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage (non-expandable). Although it comes with a 5-inch FHD display, but you're only getting a 2300mAh battery. In comparison to the Samsung Grand 2, which has a quad-core processor, the Elife S5.5 incorporates a beefy octa-core processor.
There's a 13MP rear-facing camera with auto focus, touch focus, and face tracking. Also add a high-quality 5MP front-facing camera given in the front side. It is unfortunate to see that the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, which is priced at par with the Gionee Elife S5.5, features an 8MP rear-facing camera.
Unlike other smartphones, the Elife S5.5 has a custom user interface (UI) on top of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The interface is different from Google's native Android Jelly Bean UI. The Elife S5.5 has a rounded UI, which makes it unique from competitors' devices.
No doubt, the best feature of this new mobile is its killer looks. It has a spectacular looking sleek design. But the biggest reason why the Gionee Elife S5.5 stands out is the fact that it will be made available in India for less than Rs. 25,000 (MRP Rs. 22,999). The retail price might actually dig a big hole in my pocket. At the same time, Samsung and Apple are selling their mediocre phones ( Apple iPhone 5C and Samsung Galaxy Grand 2) at a premium
