Gionee is widely expected to debut its Elife S7 at Mobile Word Congress (MWC) in Berlin. With only a few hours before the MWC tech show, the Chinese handset maker has posted the video teaser, conforming the slim form factor of its forthcoming smartphone.
The video ends with a loud message, "Gionee invites you to official unveiling of the unexpected", without spilling the beans on the phone itself. Microsoft's reference to "unexpected" could be hinting at a super slim handset. That's exactly what the Gionee Elife S7, is supposed to be about.
Although the exact nature of the Gionee Elife S7's highlighted features are unclear, with Gionee to announce the handset at this year's MWC 2015 on March 2.
According to one report, Gionee Elife S7 is indeed packing a 4.6mm profile, making it the world's slimmest smartphone. Currently, the title is held by Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini at 4.7mm.
So far, there is no information on the spec sheet of the handset, it might not be the slimmest phone, if a comment by the company's Head of Global Marketing, Oliver Sha, is any indication.
"The race to make the slimmest smartphone was getting out of hand. Going so slim is actually not benefiting user experience without the performance to back it up," stated Sha, indicating that the smartphone might be slim for sure but not the slimmest."
Still, given what's been grinding in rumor mill, and the apparent hints in the teased video, a super slim Gionee handset is on the cards.
