The thickness of the smartphones these days have become a great deal to some manufacturers. In fact, it all began with the Huawei Ascend P6 which was launched with a 6.2mm thin profile. However, it couldn't keep the trophy for a long time. However, when another Chinese smartphone maker Gionee launched its Elife S5.5, that was it, the 5.5mm thin profile was thought to be a record unbreakable.
It was evident that no other tech firms tried to even beat that thin profile of the Elife S5.5. But it was Gionee itself who was in fact trying to beat its own record. And when it launched the Elife S5.1 this year, it was sure that this would be the slimmest phone of the year measuring 5.5mm.
It is quite unlikely of a customer to ask for a phone with the slimmest profile but yes looking a the thickness of the two thinnest commercial phones in the planet, it is quite alluring to the eyes.
Now, according to Gionee, the handset is being recognized by the Guinness World Records as the thinnest smartphone ever made. It is sure that Gionee will be crowned the maker of the thinnest phone, at least for this whole year, as next year there might be some new announcements as well, which might bring new thinner phones.
As far as the specs of the Gionee Elife S5.1 is concerned, it comes with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixels, 5 MP wide-angle front-facing camera, 8 MP rear camera, quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, and a 2100 mAh battery. The handset runs Android 4.3 with Gionee's Amigo 2.0 UI.
It should be noted that the smartphone is currently only available in native market and it is offered in black, white, pink, and mint green color options.
No word on the pricing and availability of the handset in other markets.
