|

Taiwanese phone maker, HTC has just made two new additions to its Desire range of handsets ahead of IFA 2013. The Desire 601 is a mid-range handset, while the Desire 300 is an entry level budget handset.

HTC Desire 601 - Key Specs

Starting with its display, the comes with a 4.5-inch qHD display that delivers a 540x960 pixels resolution. A 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor powers the device along with 1GB of RAM for multi tasking. For imaging, it has a 5-megapixel camera in the rear a VGA camera up front. For storing your apps and files, you'll get 8GB of internal storage with an option to expand up to 64GB via a microSD card. There's a chunky 2199mAH battery that supposedly provides 13 hours of talk-time and 440 hours of standby time, along with dual stereo speakers with amplifiers up front.

For connectivity, the device has most of the regular options, which are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and of course 3G. Even though these specs are somewhat ordinary, HTC hopes to excite users with a set of camera features like Always Smile, Object Removal, Sequence shot and HTC Zoe.

HTC Desire 300 - Key Specs

Now moving onto the less-expensive HTC Desire 300, it uses a 4.3-inch WVGA display. The phone is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4processor along with 512 MB of RAM for multi-tasking. There's a 5MP camera in the rear and a VGA shoort in the front. Standard options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G are present for connectivity. The device lives off an 1650mAh battery, which according to HTC can deliver up to 11 hours of talk-time and 625 hours of standby time.

Even though we're not clear if the devices will come with Android 4.1 or 4.2, we do know that the company has added its home made HTC Sense into the mix of things.

According to the official company's press release, both handsets will be available at major retailers across the globe starting October 2013.

What About Competiton

However, the big question is how these handsets will fare against the competing devices in the crowded Indian smartphone market. The answer to this question is simple, pricing. Even though HTC has some nice features and elements packed into both handsets, they will not fly off store shelves unless the pricing is right. Indian consumers no longer hold foreign brands in high regard since local players like Micromax and Karbon have displayed quality, reliability at extremely competitive price points. Over the last year, HTC has been focusing mainly on mid-range and budget devices in India, thereby taking on domestic brands who've been flooding the market with aggressively priced, feature laden phones.
