Today, a smartphone is technically sounder than an average computer. Now, with modern day smartphone you can check your e-mails, watch a movie or use it as a gaming console. It can take even photographs, and sometimes the results are better than an average DSLR. There are currently end numbers of brands competing against each other to win over consumer interests.

Earlier in the day, Taiwanese giant HTC introduced the Desire 816 into Indian market. The handset, HTC Desire 816, has a 5.5-inch 720p HD display and runs Android 4.4 Kitkat mobile OS.

On the other hand, Nokia is hoping to crush HTC with its Lumia 1320, a 6-inch 720p HD handset. It's already available in India for quite some time, and currently retails for Rs. 20,000. Both devices are competing against each other in the mid range segment. So far large screen phones were reserved for top end of the market. Well, the specs and features of both phones are rather mid range. It is the pricing that would ultimately help us to find a winner. Are you ready to witness the big fight?

HTC Desire 816 vs. Nokia Lumia 1320: Battle of Mid-Range Phablets

HTC Desire 816 vs. Nokia Lumia 1320 - Build Quality

At first glance you would've thought that the HTC Desire 816 was a high profile handset. At 156.6 x 78.7x7.99mm and 165.5g it's is surprisingly comfortable to carry around. In fact, it is slim and light for a phablet. On the downside, the phone is made out of polycarbonate plastic rather than lush aluminum, unlike the HTC One M8.

The Lumia 1320 looks more or less similar to traditional Nokia made devices. It has a straight forward design but a bit chunk at 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.8 mm and weighs 220g.

HTC-made Desire 816 features a 5.5-inch Super LCD 2 720p HD display. The phone's display isn't that bright it should have been in a reality. That's not an amazing resolution but still we have found it to be passable.

The Nokia Lumia 320, on the other hand, incorporates a massive 6-inch 1280 x 720p HD display. Here the quality of the display is amazing. The Lumia 1320 uses ClearBlack technology which improves the contrast of the display and reduces reflections.

The HTC Desire 816 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and 1.5GB of RAM. We expect the performance to be top notch. The Desire 816 runs Android Kitkat out of the box.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 1.7GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, making it slightly less powerful when compared to the HTC Desire 816. However, it should be noted that Windows Phone 8 requires less power to run the hardware.

The HTC Desire 816 comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera with BSI sensor and ability to record videos in Full HD (1080p) format. There's a 5MP front-facing shooter with BSI sensor, plus you also get 1080p video recording.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 5MP rear-facing camera, which can shoot 1080p FHD video recording, and has a VGA quality front-facing camera. We feel that the Nokia Lumia 1320 will not likely to beat the HTC Desire 816 at least in this round.

HTC Desire 816 vs. Nokia Lumia 1320- Battery, Memory and Dual SIM

The HTC Desire 816 has a 2600mAh battery fitted inside, which the company claims to run for a longer duration.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 features a 3400mAh battery which can keep this beast for some more extra hours.

Both devices have 8GB of internal memory space. However, the Desire 816's 8GB of ROM can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot.

In case of the Nokia Lumia 1320, a user can expand the internal memory up to 64GB via a microSD card slot.

The HTC Desire 816 support Dual Nano SIM (GSM + CDMA GSM), whereas the Nokia Lumua 1320 doesn't support a dual SIM connectivity.

HTC Desire 816 vs. Nokia Lumia 1320- Conclusion

These handsets are similar in many ways; however, we think that the Desire 816 Dual SIM would be an ideal phone. The Desire 816 boasts of better specs, a great camera, latest software, and yes- it also has dual SIM connectivity. The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a marginally better screen but it doesn't come with Dual SIM.

In the Desire 816 it does support larger micro SD cards, whereas the Lumia 1320 is restricted to just over 64GB of expandable space. On paper, the Desire 816 has a better processor and RAM.

When it launched the HTC Desire 816 will cost buyers Rs. 23,990, while the Nokia Lumia 1320 is now on sale for roughly same retail price.

Another differentiating factor is their mobile OS. The Desire 816 runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat, the Nokia Lumia 1320 uses Windows Phone 8 out of the box. Now it's up to users to decide which handset among the two have more value attached to it.
