Motorola seems to be picking up the pace this year and has launched mobile handsets that would rival that of big time mobile manufacturer HTC. ‘Which would come out on top when Motorola's new handset, Motorola Atrix 4G clashes with HTC Thunderbolt' is kind of a difficult question. Based on the specifications criteria we might be able to realize who dominates in the comparison.

Both handsets have almost similar shapes but Atrix 4G looks a bit more awesome while HTC Thunderbolt is sleek and looks pretty decent. The main difference is that Motorola Atrix 4G supports only GSM networks while HTC Thunderbolt is exclusively for CDMA and will only support CDMA. The Atrix supports GSM of the frequencies 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz while Thunderbolt supports CDMA SIMs of 800/1900 MHz frequencies. Both the handset are compatible with 3G connectivity with Thunderbolt supporting 3G network of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO / LTE 700 while Atrix 4G supports HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 3G networks.

 

HTC Thunderbolt is heavier and larger with 122 x 66 x 13 mm and 164 grams of dimensional and weight measurements respectively. Atrix 4G has a dimensional measurement of 117.8 x 63.5 x 11 mm and weighs around 135 grams. Both of them are equipped with 16 M color capacitive TFT touchscreens. But there also Thunderbolt is dominant with a 4.3 inch 480 x 800 pixels resolution display. Atrix 4G possesses a cool looking 4 inch display of greater screen size of 540 x 960 pixels and has more pixel density than that of Thunderbolt.

 

Thunderbolt uses the HTC Sense v2.0 UI while Atrix 4G uses a much cooler MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets. Significant features in the Thunderbolt include Gorilla glass display, Accelerometer and Proximity Sensors. Atrix 4G features a more awesome technology namely the biometric fingerprint reader. It also features Proximity sensors and accelerometers as well as a Gorilla glass display. Both handsets respond quite well to multi-touch inputs. Both are equipped with 3.5 mm audio jack good loudspeakers, the sound in Thunderbolt being more audible. Thunderbolt features Dolby mobile sound enhancement feature, which is the reason behind its great sound output and quality. Equipped with 1 GB RAM, Atrix performs faster than the Thunderbolt, which has only 768 MB RAM.

Both handsets support only micro SD memory cards and offers up to 32 GB extensibility. Thunderbolt supports WiFi although it doesn't support GPRS and EDGE. Motorola Atrix on the other hand stands tall supporting GPRS, EDGE and WiFi besides 3.1 Mbps hi speed 3G. Both the HTC and the Motorola handsets run in Android v2.2 Froyo and Atrix OS can be upgraded to the Gingerbread version (v2.3). Camera specifications are cooler in Thunderbolt which comes with 8 Megapixel camera and a 1.3 Mp rear camera. The primary camera can record videos in 720p. Motorola Atrix only has a 5 Mp front camera and a VGA secondary camera.

Powered by a 1 GHz dual core CPU and GeForce GPU, Atrix is a better performer compared to Thunderbolt which uses 1 GHz Scorpion processor and Adreno GPU. The battery life is way better in the Atrix offering 8-9 hours talk time while the HTC offers only up to about 7 hours.

Motorola Atrix 4G will be price in India around Rs 31,000/- while HTC Thunderbolt will be available for around Rs 29,000/- price in India.
