Huawei Exec Hints At 6.1-Inch Ascend Mate: Top 3 Rivals of Jelly Bean Phablet

|

With the success of Samsung Galaxy Note, the original phablet launched by the South Korean tech giant in 2011, several handset vendors have jumped into the bandwagon of manufacturing phablets. Even, Samsung came up with its second generation phablet - Galaxy Note 2 in August 2012.

Galaxy Note 2 is selling like hot cake with a marking 5 million sales in two months of its release. In order to take over the success of the Galaxy Note successor, the Chinese tech giant Huawei is prepping a 6.1 inch device tipped as Ascend Mate.

The news about the upcoming Huawei device is circulating all over the web as Chengdong, the Vice President of Huawei has confirmed it on his Weibo, Chinese version of Twitter, claims a iTechnews report.

When it comes to launch of Ascend Mate, the company could announce the gigantic device at the CES 2013 in January.

Below are the rumored specifications of Huawei Ascend Mate and its top three rivals in the current market.

Though the Vice President of Huawei has confirmed about Ascend Mate, there are not many details about the device. However, the rumors and speculations estimate that Ascend Mate will have a massive 6.1 inch 1080p display, third generation K3V3 1.8GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and 4,000 mAh battery.

Moreover, according to the report, Chengdong has mentioned that the Ascend Mate will have a larger display and will be priced pretty low as compared to the Samsung phablet.

It is widespread that Huawei Ascend Mate is a step taken by the company to compete with Galaxy Note 2, the second generation Samsung phablet. Moreover, the company executive has claimed that the device will be more powerful than the Samsung offering and will be less expensive. Hence, Galaxy Note 2 could be the primary target of Ascend Mate.

As far as the specs of Galaxy Note successor are concerned, it has a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 1.6GHz quad core processor, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting 32GB, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and a massive 3,100 mAh Li-ion battery.

Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the Galaxy Note 2 comes in three different configurations - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal storage.

Further, the Note 2 has an improved stylus with a rubbed tip for better touch response. Also, the Air View feature of the device lets the users control it by hovering the S-Pen stylus over the display without touching.

With the scarce information available about the Ascend Mate, it could definitely pose a threat to Galaxy Note 2 costing Rs 39,990 with its lesser price tag and larger display real estate.

Recently, the company listed Butterfly on its global website hinting that the phablet will reach the international markets in near future.

Talking about the specs, Butterfly boasts full HD 1080p 5 inch LCD 3 capacitive touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, 1.5GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 2.1MP front camera, 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable memory, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, micro USB 2.0 and a 3,100 mAh Li-ion battery.
