Huawei Ascend P1 vs Micromax Canvas 4: Which One would You Choose?

Since there is a lot of competition in the market, its not easy for new entrants to crack into the smartphone category. Especially, Huawei Ascend P1 was launched in the international market, back in 2012. Now the handset has reached the Indian boundaries and that too with old specs. Hence, it will be a tough For the newly launched to compete with smartphone range which is new and introduced in 2013.

But, Huawei has smartly priced the Ascend P1 at a very nominal rate to compete with the desi market rivals including Micromax. Perhaps, one of the top contender against it will be Micromax Canvas 4 that has been ruling the Indian Smartphone arena for a while now. Thus, GizBot has come up with a brief comparative rundown between the two smartphones. Take a look!

Display

Huawei Ascend P1 sports 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display that offers a resolution of 960 × 540 pixels and 256 ppi pixel density. Micromax Canvas 4 comes with a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that offers 720 x 1280 pixel HD resolution and 294 ppi pixel density. Both the smartphones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

OS, Processor and RAM

Huawei Ascend P1 runs on an older version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS which is a huge drawback in the handset. However it is powered by a 1.5 GHz Dual-core Cortext-A9 processor coupled with 1GB RAM and PowerVR SGX540 graphic.

On the other side, Micromax Canvas 4 run on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and any firmware update for the phone will be rolled out over the air. It is powered by a MT6589, quad core 1.2 GHz MediaTek ARM Cortex A7 processor which is supported by PowerVR SGX544 graphics and 1 GB RAM.

Camera

While, there is an 8MP rear camera with dual LED Flash and 1.3MP front-facing camera fitted in the body of Ascend P1, Micromax carries a massive 13 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and there is an impressive 5 MP front facing camera as well. Ascend P1's camera features Panorama, Auto Focus, BSI Sensor, HDR Optimization, Picture Mode, Filtering Mode, Scene Mode, White Balance and others while Micromax Canvas comes with 6+ Face Detection, Scene Mode, 99 Continuous (Burst) Mode, Smile Detection, Photosolid, High Dynamic Range Synthesis, 4 Direction Panorama, Effects Library, Geo-tagging, Touch Focus, Anti-Shake Technology and Sony Sensor.

Connectivity

Both Ascend P1 and Canvas 4 comes with a regular 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth v 3.0, GPS. Besides these, Canvas 4 comes with a dual SIM support.

Storage and Battery

Both handsets come with the expandable memory up to 32GB but Aacend P1 comes with 4GB internal memory while the other one comes with a 16GB. Ascend P1 is eventually powered by a 1670mAh battery while Canvas 4 is backed by 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Price and Availability

Huawei Ascend P1 is available on Flipkart and Infibeam at Rs. 12,490 and Micromax Canvas 4 is selling at a bit higher price at Rs. 17,999.

Other features

There is hardly any other feature in Ascend P1 except that it comes with Dolby Surround Sound and is just 7.69mm thick. Contrary to that, Canvas 4 features exclusive gesture controls like unlocking the phone by blowing of a kiss and smart pause features which has been featured on devices worth Rs. 40,000.

Conclusion

Huawei Ascend P1 is a thin phone compared to Canvas 4, but display wise Canvas 4 is on an upper hand. Moreover, Canvas 4 has all round better specs and comes with advanced gesture control features.

It comes with a quad core processor, which is far more better than a dual core one. The difference is pretty fair and clear and obviously, Micromax Canvas 4 comes at a bit higher price as well. Moreover, Ascend P1 would make a difference if it lands on Indian market next month. However, going through the specs of both the handsets, Canvas 4 is definitely a better choice and an extra penny does go better with the best choices.

But of course, camera and UI wise, Huawei Ascend P1 would be a smart choice.
